This World

The abundance of this world is paucity, its grandeur is humiliation, its embellishments are... كَثْرَةُ الدُّنيا قِلَّةٌ، وَعِزُّها ذِلَّةٌ، وزَخارِفُها مُضِلَّةٌ، ومَواهِبُها فِتْنَةٌ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Be in this world with your body and in the Hereafter with your heart and your actions. كُنْ فِي الدُّنيا بِبَدَنِكَ، وَفِي الآخِرَةِ بِقَلْبِكَ وعَمَلِكَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Be most cautious of this world when you are most at ease with it. كُنْ آنَسَ ما تَكُونُ بِالدُّنيا أحْذَرَ ما تَكُونُ مِنْها۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Become uninterested in this world and be infatuated with the Hereafter. كُونُوا عَنِ الدُّنيا نُزّاهاً، وإلى الآخِرَةِ وُلاّهاً۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Be among those who recognize the transience of this world so they renounce it and know about the... كُونُوا مِمَّنْ عَرَفَ فَناءَ الدُّنيا فَزَهِدَ فيها وعَلِمَ بَقاءَ الآخِرَةِ فَعَمِلَ لَها۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Be a community that understands that this world is not their [permanent] abode so they exchange it... كُونُوا قَوْماً عَلِمُوا أنَّ الدُّنيا لَيْسَتْ الآخِرَةِ، وَلا تَكُونُوا مِنْ أبْناءِ الدُّنْيا فَإنَّ كُلَّ وَلَد سَيَلْحَقُ بِأُمِّهِ يَوْمَ القيمَةِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Whenever a person becomes more preoccupied and infatuated with this world, it makes him enter paths... كُلَّما إزدادَ المَرْءُ بِالدُّنيا شُغْلاً وزادَ بِها وَلَهاً أَوْرَدَتْهُ المَسالِكَ وَأَوْقَعَتْهُ فِي المَهالِكِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam
