Good Turns And Benevolent Actions

One who favours an ignorant person demonstrates the extent of his own ignorance. مَنِ اصْطَنَعَ جاهِلاً بَرْهَنَ عَنْ وُفُورِ جَهْلِهِ۔ Ghurar al-Hikam غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One who conceals the favour [that has been done to him] is punished with deprivation. مَنْ كَتَمَ الإحْسانَ عُوقِبَ بِالْحِرْمانِ۔ Ghurar al-Hikam غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One who withholds favours is stripped of [his] ability. مَنْ مَنَعَ الإحْسانَ سُلِبَ الإمْكانَ۔ Ghurar al-Hikam غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One who does good to a freeman gains a [great] reward. مَنِ اصْطَنَعَ حُرّاً اِسْتَفادَ أجْراً۔ Ghurar al-Hikam غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One who does a kind act earns good praise. مَنْ أحْسَنَ اِكْتَسَبَ حُسْنَ الثَّناءِ۔ Ghurar al-Hikam غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One whose benefactions are abundant demonstrates his great nobility. مَنْ كَثُرَتْ عَوارِفُهُ أبانَ عَنْ كَثْرَةِ نُبْلِهِ۔ Ghurar al-Hikam غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One whose kindness is abundant is loved by his brothers. مَنْ كَثُرَتْ إحْسانُهُ أحَبَّهُ إخْوانُهُ۔ Ghurar al-Hikam غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Whoever extends his goodness [to others], more people are inclined towards him. مَنْ بَذَلَ مَعْرُوفَهُ كَثُرَ الرّاغِبُ إلَيْهِ۔ Ghurar al-Hikam غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One who accepts your gift has [actually] assisted you in gaining honour. مَنْ قَبِلَ عَطاءَكَ فَقَدْ أعانَكَ عَلَى الكَرَمِ۔ Ghurar al-Hikam غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One who perfects his kindness gives generously before he is asked. مَنْ أكْمَلَ الإفْضالَ بَذَلَ النَّوالَ قَبْلَ السُّؤالِ۔ Ghurar al-Hikam غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One who does good to the undeserving has wronged his goodness. مَنْ أسْدى مَعْرُوفاً إلى غَيْرِ أهْلِهِ ظَلَمَ مَعْرُوفَهُ۔ Ghurar al-Hikam غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One who gives in cases that are undeserving fails to give [the rights] to those who are deserving. مَنْ أعْطى في غَيْرِ الحُقُوقِ قَصَّرَ عَنِ الحُقُوقِ۔ Ghurar al-Hikam غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One who is ungrateful for a good turn deserves an ugly separation. مَنْ كَفَرَ حُسْنَ الصَّنيعَةِ اسْتَوْجَبَ قُبْحَ القَطيعَةِ۔ Ghurar al-Hikam غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One who reciprocates a good turn with a better one has [appropriately] repaid it. مَنْ قابَلَ الإحْسانَ بِأفْضَلِ مِنْهُ فَقَدْ جازاهُ۔ Ghurar al-Hikam غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One whose benefaction increases, his assistants and helpers [also] increase. مَنْ كَثُرَ إحْسانُهُ كَثُرَ خَدَمُهُ وأعْوانُهُ۔ Ghurar al-Hikam غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Whoever extends his benevolence [to others], the hearts become inclined towards him. مَنْ بَذَلَ مَعْرُوفَهُ مالَتْ إلَيْهِ القُلُوبُ۔ Ghurar al-Hikam غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One who grants generously before being asked, then he is truly honourable and much-loved. مَنْ بَذَلَ النَّوالَ قَبْلَ السُّؤالِ فَهُوَ الكَريمُ المَحْبُوبُ۔ Ghurar al-Hikam غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One who repays goodness with evil has rid himself of magnanimity. مَنْ كافَيَ الإحْسانَ بِالإسائَةِ فَقَدْ بَرِيَ مِنَ المُرُوَّةِ۔ Ghurar al-Hikam غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Whoever does good to the people, their love for him lasts. مَنْ أحْسَنَ إلَى النّاسِ اسْتَدامَ مِنْهُمُ المَحَبَّةَ۔ Ghurar al-Hikam غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One who fulfils the [debt of] goodness that was done to him in the past has attained true freedom. مَنْ قَضى ما أُسْلِفَ مِنَ الإحْسانِ فَهُوَ الكامِلُ الحُرِيَّةِ۔ Ghurar al-Hikam غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One who turns to you hopefully has already got a good impression of you, so do not disappoint his... مَنِ انْتَجَعَكَ مُؤَمِّلاً فَقَدْ أسْلَفَكَ حُسْنَ الظَّنِّ بِكَ فَلا تُخَيِّبْ ظَنَّهُ۔ Ghurar al-Hikam غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Whoever fulfils the rights of one who does not fulfil his rights has enslaved him. مَنْ قَضى حَقَّ مَنْ لايَقْضي حَقَّهُ فَقَدْ عَبَّدَهُ۔ Ghurar al-Hikam غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One who is kind to the people, his outcomes become good and the ways [to his goals] become easy for... مَنْ أحْسَنَ إلَى النّاسِ حَسُنَتْ عَواقِبُهُ وسَهُلَتْ لَهُ طُرُقُهُ۔ Ghurar al-Hikam غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Whoever accepts a good turn has made the one who rendered it to him his master. مَنْ قَبِلَ مَعْرُوفاً فَقَدْ مَلَكَ مُسْديهِ إلَيْهِ رِقَّهُ۔ Ghurar al-Hikam غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
