I am amazed at the one who forgets death while he sees others dying [around him].
عَجِبْتُ لِمَنْ نَسِيَ المَوْتَ وهُوَ يَرى مَنْ يَمُوتُ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
I am amazed at the person who sees his body and his lifespan decreasing every day and still does...
عَجِبْتُ لِمَنْ يَرى أنَّهُ يُنْقَصُ كُلَّ يَوْم في نَفْسِهِ وعُمْرِهِ وهُوَ لايَتَأَهَّبُ لِلْمَوْتِ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
I am amazed at the one who fears the ambush [of death] and still does not desist.
عَجِبْتُ لِمَنْ خافَ البَياتَ فَلَمْ يَكُفَّ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
The end of death is loss.
غايَةُ المَوْتِ الفَوْتُ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
The absent death is more deserving of being awaited and is closer in its approach [than any other...
غائِبُ المَوْتِ أحَقُّ مُنْتَظَر وأقْرَبُ قادِم۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
In death there is [either] delight or regret.
فِي المَوْتِ غِبْطَةٌ أوْ نِدامَةٌ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
In every soul there is death.
في كُلِّ نَفْس مَوْتٌ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
In death there is comfort for the felicitous.
فِي المَوْتِ راحَةُ السُّعَداءِ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
Death may [at times] be hastened.
قَدْ تُعاجِلُ المَنِيَّةُ۔
—Ghurar al-Hikam
—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
Every expected thing [eventually] arrives.
كُلُّ مُتَوَقَّع آت۔
—Ghurar al-Hikam
—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
Every comer is near.
كُلُّ آت قَريبٌ۔
—Ghurar al-Hikam
—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
Every near one is close by.
كُلُّ قَريب دان۔
—Ghurar al-Hikam
—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
Every person will meet his death.
كُلُّ امْرِء لاق حِمامَهُ۔
—Ghurar al-Hikam
—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
How can one who is sought by death remain safe?.
كَيْفَ يَسْلَمُ مَنِ المَوْتُ طالِبُهُ؟!

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
How can you forget death while its signs are [constantly] reminding you [of it]?.
كَيْفَ تَنْسَى المَوْتَ وآثارُهُ تُذَكِّرُكَ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
For every rising one there is a setting.
لِكُلِّ ناجِم أُفُولٌ۔
—Ghurar al-Hikam
—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
For every [being with a] soul there is death.
لِكُلِّ نَفْس حِمامٌ۔
—Ghurar al-Hikam
—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
For every living thing there is death.
لِكُلِّ حَيّ مَوْتٌ۔
—Ghurar al-Hikam
—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
For all [beings with] souls there is death.
لِلنُّفُوسِ حِمامٌ۔
—Ghurar al-Hikam
—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
The affluent person will never be saved from death because of his abundant wealth.
لَنْ يَنْجُوَ مِنَ المَوْتِ غَنِيٌّ لِكَثْرَةِ مالِهِ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
The poor person will never be saved from death because of his poverty.
لَنْ يَسْلَمَ مِنَ المَوْتِ فَقيرٌ لإقْلالِهِ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
If death could be bought, the affluent would have surely bought it.
لَوْ أنَّ المَوْتَ يُشْتَرى لأشْتَراهُ الأغْنِياءُ۔
—Ghurar al-Hikam
—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
One who dies, passes away.
مَنْ ماتَ فاتَ۔
—Ghurar al-Hikam
—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
One who is certain of the [eventual] departure [from this world] prepares for the journey.
مَنْ أيْقَنَ بِالنُّقْلَةِ تَأهَّبَ لِلْرَّحِيلِ۔
