A dispraised character is from the fruits of ignorance.
اَلخُلقُ المَذْمُومُ مِنْ ثِمارِ الجَهْلِ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
How detestable are the traits of the vile and how good are the qualities of the honourable!
ما أقْبَحَ شِيَمَ اللِّئامِ، وأحسَنَ سَجايَا الكِرامِ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
Being close to the people in their morals [and habits] is a safeguard from their malice.
مُقارَبَةُ الرِّجالِ في خَلائِقِهِمْ أمْنٌ مِنْ غَوائِلِهِمْ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
There is no good in a character that is not adorned with forbearance.
لا خَيْرَ في خُلْق لا يَزينُهُ حِلْمٌ۔

There is no good in the trait of arrogance, haughtiness and pride.
لا خَيْرَ في شيمَةِ كِبْر، وتَجَبُّر، وفَخْر۔

There is no life for the one who has a bad character.
لاعَيْشَ لِسَيِّيءِ الخُلْقِ۔

There is no loneliness worse than [that which is brought about by] bad character.
لا وَحْشَةَ أوْحَشُ مِنْ سُوءِ الخُلقِ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
The one who has a bad character is very impetuous and has a bitter life.
اَلسَّيِّيُ الخُلقِ كَثيِرُ الطَّيْش مُنَغِّصُ العَيْشِ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
A bad character is one of the two torments.
اَلخُلقُ السَّيِّءُ أحَدُ العَذابَينِ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
One who makes his character bad, torments his [own] soul.
مَنْ أساءَ خُلْقَهُ عَذَّبَ نَفْسَهُ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
One whose character is bad, his [own] family becomes fed up with him.
مَنْ ضاقَ خُلْقُهُ مَلَّهُ أهْلُهُ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
One whose character is bad, his sustenance is restricted.
مَنْ ساءَ خُلْقُهُ ضاقَ رِزْقُهُ۔

One who does not affirm his past (i.e. the good character of his forefathers) with his present...
مَنْ لَمْ يُؤَكِّد قَديمَهُ بِحَديثِهِ، شانَ سَلَفَهُ وخانَ خَلَفَهُ۔
