One who hopes for that which is not possible, his anticipation becomes long.
مَنْ أمَّلَ ما لايُمْكِنُ، طالَ تَرَقُّبُهُ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
One whose hope is [to reach] Allah, shall realize the fulfilment of his hope and aspiration.
مَنْ يَكُنِ اللّهُ أمَلَهُ، يُدْرِكُ غايَةَ الأمَلِ والرَّجاءِ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
Whoever regards his remaining lifetime to be fleeting, his hopes and aspirations become short.
مَنِ اسْتَقصَرَ بَقاءَهُ وأجَلَهُ، قَصَّرَ رَجاؤُهُ وأمَلُهُ۔

One who proceeds on the course of his hopes, stumbles upon his death.
مَنْ جَرى في عِنانِ أمَلِهِ عَثِرَ بِأجَلَهِ۔

One who hopes for anything other than Allah, the Glorified, has given lie to his hopes.
مَنّ أمَّلَ غَيْرَ اللّهِ سُبْحانَه أكذَبَ آمالَهُ۔

One who seeks support from his aspirations becomes penniless.
مَنِ اسْتَعانَ بِالأمانيِّ أفْلَسَ۔

It is foolishness to depending on [one’s] hope.
مِنَ الحُمْقِ الاِتِّكالُ عَلَى الأمَلِ۔

The humiliation of men is in the dashing of hopes.
ذُلُّ الرِّجالِ في خَيْبَةِ الآمالِ۔

Blessed is he who shortens his hopes and makes good use of his time.
طُوبى لِمَنْ قَصَّرَ أمَلَهُ واغْتَنَمَ مَهَلَهُ۔

Blessed is he who belies his aspirations and sacrifices his world in order to build his Hereafter.

One who relies on his aspirations dies without [realizing] his hopes.
مَنِاتَّكلَ علَى الأمانيّ ماتَ دُونَ أمَلِهِ۔

One who trusts his aspirations will have them severed by death.
مَنْ وَثِقَ بِالاُمْنِيَّةِ قَطَعَتْهُ المَنيِّةُ۔

Whoever shortens his hopes, beautifies his actions.
مَنْ قَصُرَ أمَلُهُ حَسُنَ عَمَلُهُ۔

Whoever lengthens his hopes, corrupts his actions.
مَنْ أطالَ أمَلَهُ أفْسَدَ عَمَلَهُ۔
