Every person is seeking his aspirations while [concurrently] being sought by his death.
كُلُّ امْرِء طالِبُ اُمْنِيَّتِهِ ومَطْلُوبُ مَنِيَّتِهِ۔

How many a person is deluded by hopes, [and] ends up wasting his actions!
كَمْ مِنْ مَخْدُوع بِالأمَلِ مُضَيِّع لِلْعَمَلِ۔

Hope is sufficient as a deception.
كَفى بِالأمَلِ إغْتِراراً۔

Increased aspirations stem from corruption of the intellect.
كَثْرَةُ الأماني مِنْ فِسادِ العَقْلِ۔

For every hope there is a delusion.
لِكُلِّ أمَل غُرورٌ۔

اَلآمالُ لاتَنتَهي۔

Hope causes death to be forgotten.
اَلأملُ يُنْسِى الأجَلَ۔

Aspirations are incentives for men.
اَلأمانيُّ هِمَّةُ الرِّجالِ۔

Hope is the veil of death.
اَلأمَلُ حِجابُ الأجَلِ۔

There is no end to hope.
اَلأمَلُ لا غايَةَ لَهُ۔

Hope is an intimate companion.
اَلأملُ رَفيقٌ مُونِسٌ۔

Hope is a cheater, deceiver, and harmer.
اَلأملُ خادِعٌ، غارٌّ، ضارٌّ۔

Hope corrupts [one’s] actions and wastes [one’s] lifetime.
اَلأملُ يُفْسِدُ العَمَلَ، ويُفنِي الأجَلَ۔

Aspirations blind the eyes of insight.
اَلأمانيُّ تُعْمي عُيُونَ البَصائِرِ۔

Aspirations beguile you, and in the presence of reality, they abandon you.
اَلأمانيُّ تَخْدَعُكَ، وعِنْدَ الحَقائقِِ تَدَعُكَ۔

Verily I am fighting against my hopes and waiting for my death.
إنّي مُحاربُ أمَلي، ومُنْتَظِرُ أجَلي۔

Verily you will not reach what you hope for and will never surpass death, so be conscious of Allah...
إنّكَ لَنْ تَبْلُغَ أمَلَكَ، وَلَنْ تَعدُوَ أجَلَكَ، فَاتَّقِ اللّهَ، وأجْمِلْ في الطَّلَبِ۔

إنَّكُمْ إنِ اغْتَرَرْتُمْ بِالآمالِ، تَخَرَّمَتْكُمْ بَوادِرُ الآجالِ وقَدْ ماتَتْكُمُ الأعْمالُ۔
