Verily this world has people who possess preserved treasures that are disparaged and cast away by you. The religion is opened up by them just as one of you would open the lid of his cooking pot. They stick together like [a swarm of] locusts and destroy the tyrants of the lands.

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) highlights the existence of a group of individuals in this world who possess hidden treasures that are disregarded and rejected by others. These individuals are despised and their true worth is not recognized by the people around them. However, their value lies in their ability to uncover and reveal the essence of religion, just as one would uncover the contents of a cooking pot.

The Hadith further describes these individuals as being united and cohesive, like a swarm of locusts. They possess immense power and are capable of overthrowing the tyrants and oppressors of the land. Their collective strength and determination enable them to bring about significant change and eradicate injustice.

To understand the essence of this Hadith, we must turn to the Quran for guidance. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Hadid (57:25),

We sent aforetime our messengers with clear signs and sent down with them the Book and the Balance, that people may stand forth in justice.

This verse emphasizes the role of the messengers and the divine scriptures in establishing justice and guiding humanity. The messengers, like Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), possess the knowledge and wisdom to unlock the treasures of guidance contained within the scriptures. They are entrusted with the task of spreading the message of truth and justice, just as Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) did during his caliphate.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Imran (3:187), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,

And [mention, O Muhammad], when Allah took a covenant from those who were given the Scripture, [saying], 'You must make it clear to the people and not conceal it.' But they threw it away behind their backs and exchanged it for a small price. And wretched is that which they purchased.

This verse highlights the responsibility of the people of knowledge to convey the message of truth and not conceal it. Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) and other righteous individuals possess the preserved treasures of knowledge, which they bring forth to guide and enlighten the people. However, it is unfortunate that many people fail to recognize the true worth of these individuals and instead choose to disregard their teachings.

The consequences of neglecting the guidance of these individuals are severe. In Surah Al-Anfal (8:36), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) warns,

Indeed, those who disbelieve spend their wealth to avert [people] from the way of Allah. So they will spend it; then it will be for them a [source of] regret; then they will be overcome.

This verse serves as a reminder that those who reject the guidance of the righteous individuals and instead support the oppressors will ultimately face regret and defeat. The tyrants and unjust rulers may appear powerful and invincible, but their downfall is inevitable when confronted by the united force of those who possess the true treasures of knowledge and righteousness.

Reflecting on this Hadith, we can draw several important lessons. Firstly, it reminds us of the significance of seeking knowledge and recognizing the value of those who possess it. We should strive to learn from the righteous individuals and benefit from their wisdom and guidance.

Secondly, it emphasizes the importance of unity and collective action in the face of oppression and injustice. Just as a swarm of locusts can bring down the mightiest of tyrants, so too can a united community of believers, guided by the teachings of the righteous, overcome any challenges and establish justice.

Lastly, this Hadith serves as a reminder that true treasures lie in the knowledge and guidance of the Ahl al-Bayt (عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلسَّلَامُ) and their righteous followers. It is our duty as Muslims to recognize and appreciate their immense contribution to the preservation and dissemination of the true teachings of Islam.

May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) grant us the wisdom to seek knowledge and follow the path of righteousness. May He unite the hearts of the believers and grant them success in establishing justice and eradicating oppression. Ameen.
