The one who openly declares his sin is an advertiser [of his disobedience to Allah].
اَلمُعْلِنُ بِالمَعْصِيَةِ مُجاهِرٌ۔

Disobedience [to Allah] is the negligence of the vicious (or the weak).
اَلمَعصِيَةُ تَفْريطُ الفَجَرَةِ (العَجَزَةِ)۔

Sin prevents the one’s supplication from being answered.
اَلمَعْصيَةُ تَمْنَعُ الإجابَةَ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
Persistence [in sinning] is the worst of ideas.
اَلإصْرارُ شَرُّ الآراءِ۔
—Ghurar al-Hikam
—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
Persistence [in sinning] is the gravest of sins.
اَلإصْرارُ أعْظَمُ حَوْبَةً۔
—Ghurar al-Hikam
—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
Persistence [in sinning] is the trait of the doomed.
اَلإصرارُ سَجِيَّةُ الهَلْكى۔
—Ghurar al-Hikam
—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
Retribution is the fruit of misdeeds.
اَلعِقابُ ثِمارُ السَّيِّئاتِ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
Persistence [in sinning] brings [divine] wrath.
اَلإصرارُ يَجْلِبُ النِّقْمَةَ۔
—Ghurar al-Hikam
—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
Disobedience [to Allah] brings retribution.
اَلمَعْصِيَةُ تَجْتَلِبُ العُقُوبَةَ۔
—Ghurar al-Hikam
—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
Returning to sin [and repeating it] is persistence [in sinning].
المُعاوَدَةُ إلَى الذَّنْبِ إصْرارٌ۔
—Ghurar al-Hikam
—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
Persistence [in sinning] is the gravest sin and the quickest in [bringing] retribution.
اَلإصرارُ أعْظَمُ حَوْبَةً، وأسْرَعُ عُقُوبَةً۔
—Ghurar al-Hikam
—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
Keeping away from vices is more important [and better] than earning good deeds.
اِجْتِنابُ السَّيِّئاتِ أوْلى مِنِ اكْتِسابِ الحَسَناتِ۔
—Ghurar al-Hikam
—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
If you must, by all means, be pure, then purify yourselves from vices of the hearts.
إنْ كُنتُمْ لامُحالَةَ مُتَنَزِّهينَ، فَتَنَزَّهُوا عَنْ مَعاصِي القُلُوبِ۔
—Ghurar al-Hikam
—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
If you must, by all means, be clean, then clean yourselves from the filth of flaws and vices.
إنْ كُنْتُمْ لا مُحالَةَ مُتَطَهِّرينَ، فَتَطَهَّرُوا مِنْ دَنَسِ العُيُوبِ وَالذُّنوبِ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
If you purify yourselves from vices, Allah will love you.
إنْ تَنَزَّهُوا عَنِ المَعاصي يُحبِبْكُمُ اللّهُ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
Verily if you keep away from vices you will attain elevated ranks.
إنَّكَ إنِ اجْتَنَبْتَ السَّيِّئاتِ نِلْتَ رَفيعَ الدَّرَجاتِ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
The bane of obedience is insubordination.
آفَةُ الطّاعَةِ العِصْيانُ۔
—Ghurar al-Hikam
—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
When you commit a sin then be remorseful for it.
إذا قارَفْتَ ذَنْباً فَكُنْ عَلَيْهِ نادِماً۔
—Ghurar al-Hikam
—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
It is through disobedience [to Allah] that wretchedness comes about.
بِالمَعصِيَةِ تَكُونُ الشَّقاءُ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
Through disobedience [to Allah] the [gate of] hellfire is closed for the aberrant [and they are...
بِالمَعْصِيَةِ تُؤْصَدُ النّارُ لِلْغاوينَ۔
—Ghurar al-Hikam
—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
How evil an action disobedience [to Allah] is!
بِئسَ العَمَلُ المَعْصيَةُ۔
—Ghurar al-Hikam
—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
Avoid disobeying Allah and you will be successful.
تَوَقَّ مَعاصِيَ اللّهِ تُفْلِحْ۔
—Ghurar al-Hikam
—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
Guard yourself against sins and restrain yourselves from them, for indeed, wretched is the one who...
تَوَقُّوا المَعاصِيَ، واحْبِسُوا أنْفُسَكُمْ عَنْها، فَإنَّ الشَّقِيَّ مَنْ أطْلَقَ فيها عِنانَهُ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
Exalted is Allah, the Mighty, [yet] how lenient is He! And you are lowly and weak yet how bold you...
تعالَى اللّهُ مِنْ قَوِيّ ما أحْلَمَهُ، وَتَواضَعْتَ مِنْ ضَعيف ما أجْرَأَكَ على مَعاصيهِ۔
