It is seldom that the view of a hasty person turns out to be correct.

(Ghurar al-Hikam: Haste And The Hasty)
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure and noble Ahl al-Bayt, and his righteous companions.
The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,
قَلَّما يُصيبُ رَأيُ العَجُولِ۔
This can be translated as,
It is seldom that the view of a hasty person turns out to be correct.
In this impactful saying , Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) highlights the importance of patience, wisdom, and careful consideration before forming opinions or making decisions.
To understand the significance of this Hadith, let us delve into the meanings of the key words. The term "رَأيُ" refers to a person's view, opinion, or judgment. It encompasses one's thoughts, beliefs, and perspectives. The word "العَجُولِ" refers to someone who is hasty, impulsive, or quick to act without proper reflection or deliberation.
In the Quran, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) repeatedly emphasizes the importance of wisdom, patience, and careful consideration. In Surah Al-Imran, verse 159, Allah says,
So by mercy from Allah, [O Muhammad], you were lenient with them. And if you had been rude [in speech] and harsh in heart, they would have disbanded from about you. So pardon them and ask forgiveness for them and consult them in the matter. And when you have decided, then rely upon Allah. Indeed, Allah loves those who rely [upon Him].
This verse highlights the significance of consulting others and seeking their opinions before making decisions. It encourages us to be patient, kind, and considerate in our interactions. By doing so, we can foster unity and harmony within our communities.
Another verse that supports the wisdom of Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) statement is found in Surah Al-Hujurat, verse 6:
O you who have believed, if there comes to you a disobedient one with information, investigate, lest you harm a people out of ignorance and become, over what you have done, regretful.
This verse advises us to verify information and investigate before forming judgments or taking action. It warns against acting impulsively based on incomplete or false information, as it may lead to harm and regret. This aligns perfectly with Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) statement, emphasizing the importance of careful consideration and avoiding hasty decisions.
Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) statement holds great wisdom and relevance in our lives as Muslims. It reminds us to be cautious and thoughtful in our judgments, decisions, and interactions. Hasty actions can often lead to negative consequences, misunderstandings, and regrets. By taking the time to reflect, seek advice, and consider different perspectives, we can make more informed and righteous choices.
Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) was known for his profound knowledge and wisdom. His statement serves as a reminder of his exceptional insight and understanding of human nature. It encourages us to follow in his footsteps and strive for intellectual and spiritual growth.
In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) teaches us the importance of patience, wisdom, and careful consideration in our thoughts, judgments, and decisions. It urges us to avoid hasty actions and impulsive behavior, as they often lead to unfavorable outcomes. By seeking knowledge, consulting others, and reflecting upon our choices, we can navigate through life with wisdom and righteousness.
