Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. Peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure progeny, the Ahl al-Bayt, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

كُلُّ يَوْم يَسُوقُ إلى غَدِهِ۔

This can be translated as,

Every day is driving towards its morrow.

Let us delve into the deeper meaning of this impactful Hadith in light of the Quran. The word (yasuqu) "يَسُوقُ" in the Hadith refers to the continuous movement and progression of time. It signifies that each day is constantly moving forward, never pausing or turning back. This concept is beautifully captured in the Quran in Surah Al-Rahman, verse 55, where Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,

The sun and the moon [move] by precise calculation.

This verse emphasizes the perpetual motion of celestial bodies, symbolizing the passage of time.

Furthermore, the word (ghadihi) "غَدِهِ" in the Hadith refers to the future, the coming day. It highlights the inevitability of the future and the continuous flow of time. This is echoed in the Quran in Surah Al-Imran, verse 185, where Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,

Every soul will taste death, and you will only be given your [full] compensation on the Day of Resurrection.

This verse reminds us that every day brings us closer to the Day of Resurrection, our ultimate destination.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) statement holds profound wisdom and lessons for us as Muslims. It serves as a reminder that time is a precious resource that should not be wasted or taken for granted. Each passing day brings us closer to our ultimate meeting with Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ), and it is our responsibility to make the most of it.

This Hadith encourages us to reflect on our actions and intentions, to evaluate whether we are utilizing our time wisely in the pursuit of righteousness and the betterment of ourselves and society. It reminds us that our days are limited, and we must strive to make them meaningful and purposeful.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) thought-provoking saying also serves as a motivation for us to constantly strive for self-improvement and growth. Just as each day moves forward, we too should strive to progress and evolve in our faith, knowledge, and character. This is in line with the Quranic verse in Surah Al-Isra, verse 84, where Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,

And say, 'My Lord, increase me in knowledge.'

Moreover, this Hadith reminds us of the consequences of our actions. Each day that passes is a reflection of the choices we make, and it is a reminder that we will be held accountable for our deeds. The Quran emphasizes this in Surah Al-Infitar, verse 6-7, where Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,

O mankind, indeed you are laboring toward your Lord with [great] exertion and will meet it.

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ)

Every day is driving towards its morrow

serves as a profound reminder for us as Muslims. It urges us to value and make the most of our time, to constantly strive for self-improvement, and to be mindful of the consequences of our actions. May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) grant us the wisdom to utilize our days wisely and to make them a means of drawing closer to Him.
