Where are those who allege that they are firmly grounded in knowledge apart from us, while they lie and transgress against us, and harbour jealousy towards us because Allah, the Glorified, elevated us and lowered them, gave us and deprived them, put us in [His proximity] and expelled them; it is through us that guidance is granted and the blindness [of ignorance] is removed, not though them!

(Ghurar al-Hikam: Muhammad (S) And His Progeny)
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. Peace and blessings be upon Muhammad, his family, his companions, and the righteous successors.
The provided Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) is a powerful statement that highlights the superiority of the Ahl al-Bayt (the Prophet's household) in knowledge and guidance. Let us delve into the exegesis of this Hadith, exploring its profound meanings and supporting it with relevant Quranic verses.
Firstly, let us examine the key words in this Hadith. Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) begins by questioning those who claim to possess firm knowledge, asserting that they are lying and transgressing against the Ahl al-Bayt. He further highlights their jealousy towards the Ahl al-Bayt due to their elevated status bestowed upon them by Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). The Imam emphasizes that Allah has given the Ahl al-Bayt knowledge and guidance, while depriving those who oppose them.
To support the exegesis of this Hadith, we turn to the Quran, where Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) repeatedly emphasizes the elevated status and knowledge of the Ahl al-Bayt. In Surah Al-Ahzab (33:33), Allah says,
Indeed, Allah desires to repel all impurity from you, O Ahl al-Bayt, and purify you with a thorough purification.
This verse clearly indicates that the Ahl al-Bayt are divinely chosen and purified by Allah Himself.
Furthermore, in Surah Al-Anfal (8:41), Allah states,
And know that whatever you obtain of war booty - indeed, for Allah is one-fifth of it and for the Messenger and for [his] near relatives and the orphans, the needy, and the [stranded] traveler.
This verse highlights the special rights and privileges granted to the near relatives of the Prophet (ﷺ), including the Ahl al-Bayt.
The consequences of denying the superiority of the Ahl al-Bayt and opposing them are severe. In Surah Al-Imran (3:61), Allah recounts the incident of the Mubahala, where the Christians of Najran challenged the Prophet (ﷺ) to invoke the curse of Allah upon the liars. The Prophet (ﷺ) took Imam Ali, Lady Fatima, Imam Hasan, and Imam Husayn (عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلسَّلَامُ) as his family and invoked the curse upon the liars. This event demonstrates the special status and divine protection of the Ahl al-Bayt.
Reflecting on this Hadith, we understand that the knowledge and guidance granted by Allah to the Ahl al-Bayt is unparalleled. They are the source of true guidance and the means through which the blindness of ignorance is removed. Muslims must recognize and follow the teachings of the Ahl al-Bayt to attain true knowledge and guidance.
In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) serves as a reminder of the elevated status and knowledge bestowed upon the Ahl al-Bayt by Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). It highlights the consequences of denying their superiority and opposing them. Muslims should seek guidance from the Ahl al-Bayt and follow their teachings to attain true knowledge and enlightenment. May Allah guide us all on the path of righteousness.
