Hadith #7584

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) emphasizes the importance of self-discipline and lifelong learning in the pursuit of knowledge. The Arabic word (yud'ib) "يُدْئِبْ" or (yudhib) "يُذِبْ" refers to disciplining oneself or spending one's life in acquiring knowledge. This Hadith teaches us that without self-discipline and continuous efforts in seeking knowledge, one cannot achieve great success.

To understand the significance of this Hadith, let us turn to the Quran for guidance. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Qamar (54:17):

And We have certainly made the Quran easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember?

Allah will raise those who have believed among you and those who were given knowledge, by degrees. And Allah is Acquainted with what you do.

This verse emphasizes the elevated status of those who believe and seek knowledge. It is through the acquisition of knowledge that individuals are elevated in the sight of Allah. This highlights the importance of self-discipline and continuous learning in order to attain success in this life and the hereafter.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) Hadith serves as a reminder for Muslims to prioritize the pursuit of knowledge and to constantly strive to improve themselves. By disciplining oneself and dedicating time and effort to acquiring knowledge, one can gain great success in various aspects of life.

Without discipline, one may become complacent and stagnant, lacking the motivation to grow and improve. This can hinder personal development, limit opportunities, and lead to a lack of success in various aspects of life.
