(Ghurar al-Hikam: The Truth)

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure progeny, the Ahl al-Bayt, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states: "الْمَغْلُوبُ بِالْحَقِِّ غَالِبٌ". This Hadith can be translated as:

One who is overcome [while he is] on the right, is victorious.

Let us delve into the deeper meaning of this beautiful saying of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) and explore its significance in light of the Quranic teachings.

The word (maghloob) "مَغْلُوبُ" in this Hadith refers to someone who is defeated or overcome. It signifies a person who may face challenges, hardships, or opposition in their pursuit of truth and righteousness. Despite being in a state of apparent defeat, this individual remains steadfast in upholding the principles of truth and justice.

The word (bil-haqqi) "بِالْحَقِِّ" means "with the truth" or

on the right path.

It emphasizes the importance of adhering to the truth, even in the face of adversity. This Hadith highlights the idea that those who remain steadfast on the path of truth, even when faced with difficulties, will ultimately emerge victorious.

To understand the deeper meaning of this Hadith, let us turn to the Quran for guidance. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 286:

Allah does not burden a soul beyond that it can bear.

This verse reminds us that Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) does not place a burden on us that is beyond our capacity to handle. It implies that even in the face of challenges, we have the strength to overcome them with the help of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ).

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Ankabut, verse 2, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says:

Do the people think that they will be left to say, 'We believe' and they will not be tried?

This verse reminds us that trials and tribulations are an inevitable part of our journey as believers. It is through these tests that our faith is strengthened, and our commitment to the truth is solidified.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) Hadith encourages us to remain steadfast on the path of truth, even when faced with challenges or opposition. It reminds us that victory lies in upholding the principles of truth and justice, regardless of the circumstances.

To illustrate this concept, let us consider the example of Prophet Ibrahim (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ). He faced numerous trials and tribulations throughout his life, including being thrown into a blazing fire for his refusal to worship idols. Despite these hardships, Prophet Ibrahim (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) remained firm in his belief in the oneness of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) and emerged victorious. His unwavering commitment to the truth earned him the title of (the Friend of Allah) "Khalilullah".

Similarly, we find the story of Prophet Yusuf (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) in the Quran, who was betrayed by his brothers, thrown into a well, and sold into slavery. Despite these trials, Prophet Yusuf (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) remained steadfast in his faith and integrity. Eventually, he rose to a position of power and authority, becoming a source of guidance and wisdom for his people.

These examples from the Quran demonstrate that those who remain steadfast on the path of truth, even in the face of adversity, are ultimately victorious. They are not defeated by the challenges they encounter, but rather, they emerge stronger and more resilient.

In conclusion, Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) Hadith reminds us of the importance of remaining steadfast on the path of truth, even when faced with challenges or opposition. It teaches us that victory lies in upholding the principles of truth and justice, regardless of the circumstances. By drawing inspiration from the Quranic examples of Prophet Ibrahim (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) and Prophet Yusuf (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), we can find the motivation and strength to persevere in our own lives. May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) grant us the ability to remain steadfast on the path of truth and emerge victorious in all our endeavors.
