Hadith #913

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. Blessings and peace be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

Good etiquette is the best supporter and finest companion.

This impactful saying emphasizes the importance of good manners and etiquette in our lives as Muslims. Let us delve deeper into the meaning of this Hadith and explore its significance in light of the Quran.

The word "husn" in Arabic refers to "good" or "excellent," while "adab" means "etiquette" or "manners." Thus, the Hadith highlights the virtue and excellence of having good manners. The Quran provides numerous verses that emphasize the significance of good manners and etiquette. In Surah Al-Hujurat (49:11), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,

O you who have believed, let not a people ridicule [another] people; perhaps they may be better than them; nor let women ridicule [other] women; perhaps they may be better than them.

This verse reminds us to refrain from mocking or belittling others, highlighting the importance of treating everyone with respect and dignity.

Additionally, in Surah Al-Isra (17:53), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) commands Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) to say,

Tell My servants to say that which is best. Indeed, Satan induces [dissension] among them. Indeed Satan is ever, to mankind, a clear enemy.

This verse emphasizes the importance of choosing our words wisely and speaking in a manner that is kind and beneficial. It reminds us that good etiquette in speech can help prevent conflicts and maintain harmonious relationships.
