You are the harvests of the appointed terms and the targets of death.
إنَّكُمْ حَصائِدُ الآجالِ وأغْراضُ الحِمامِ۔

May the mercy of Allah be on the person who understands that his [every] breath brings him a step...
رَحِمَ اللّهُ امْرَءاً عَلِمَ أنَّ نَفَسَهُ خُطاهُ إلى أجَلِهِ، فبادَرَ عَمَلَهُ، وقَصَّرَ أمَلَهُ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
May the mercy of Allah be on the person who anticipates [his] death, belies [his false]...
رَحِمَ اللّهُ امْرَءا ًبادَرَ الأجَلَ، وأكْذَبَ الأمَلَ، وأخلَصَ العَمَلَ۔

Sometimes death is [hidden] beneath an aspiration.
رُبَّ أجَل تَحْتَ أمَل۔

With the passing of hours, lifetimes perish.
مَعَ السَّاعاتِ تَفنَى الآجالُ۔

Verily there is a shield over me, in the form of my appointed time of death, which protects me; so...
إنَّ عَلَىَّ مِنْ أجَلي جُنَّةً حَصينَةً، فَإذا جاءَ يَومِي انْفَرَجَت عَنّي وَأسْلَمَتْني، فَحينَئذ لا يَطيشُ السَّهْمُ ولا يَبْرَءُ...
