نِعْمَ قَرينُ الأمانَةِ الوَفاءُ۔

The promise of an honourable person is immediate and swift.
وَعْدُ الكَريمِ نَقْدٌ وتَعْجيلٌ۔

The promise of a wicked person is delayed and full of excuses.
وَعْدُ اللَّئيمِ تَسْويفٌ، وتَعْليلٌ۔

Do not promise that which you are incapable of fulfilling.
لاتَعِدْ بِما تَعْجِزُ عَنِ الوَفاءِ بِهِ۔

Do not guarantee that which you are incapable of fulfilling.
لاتَضْمَنْ مالاتَقْدِرُ عَلَى الوَفاءِ بِهِ۔

Never make a promise that you are not confident you will be able to keep.

Be a keeper of promises and a fulfiller of vows.
كُنْ مُنَجِّزاً لِلْوَعْدِ مُوفِياً بِالنَّذْرِ۔

One who fulfils his promise demonstrates his nobility.
مَنْ وَفى بِعَهْدِهِ أعْرَبَ عَنْ كَرَمِهِ۔

One who safeguards his covenant is considered loyal.
مَنْ حَفِظَ عَهْدَهُ كانَ وَفِيّاً۔

One who is unwaveringly loyal deserves to be chosen [as a friend].
مَنْ أحْسَنَ الوَفاءَ اِسْتَحَقَّ الاِصْطِفاءَ۔

The promise [that is made] is one of the two bondages.
اَلوَعْدُ أحَدُ الرِّقَّيْنِ۔

Fulfilling the promise [one makes] is one of the two emancipations.
إنْجازُ الوَعْدِ أحَدُ العِتْقَيْنِ۔

A polite refusal is better than a protracted promise.
اَلمَنْعُ الجَمِيلُ أحْسَنُ مِنَ الوَعْدِ الطَّويلِ۔

Fulfilling promises is from the signs of distinction.
إنْجازُ الوَعْدِ مِنْ دَلائِلِ المَجْدِ۔

Sincere friendship and fulfilling promises are from loyalty to [one’s] pledge.

Be steadfast [and loyal] in fulfilling your pledges.
اِعْتَصِمُوا بِالذِّمَمِ في أوْتادِها۔

لاتَثِقَنَّ بِعَهْدِ مَنْ لادينَ لَهُ۔
