Reward goodness and overlook offence, as long as it is not a breach in religion or an undermining... جازِ بِالحَسَنَةِ، وتَجاوَزْ عَنِ السَّيِّئَةِ، ما لَمْ يَكُنْ ثَلَماً فِي الدّينِ، أوْ وَهْناً في سُلْطانِ الإسْلامِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Adopt [the policy of] excusing the people and do not extend your hand to that which is disagreeable... خُذِ العَفْوَ مِنَ النّاسِ، ولاتَبْلُغ مِنْ أحَد مَكْرُوهَهُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Do away with revenge, for indeed it is from the worst actions of the powerful, and he who raises... دَعِ الاِنْتِقامَ فَإنَّهُ مِنْ أسْوَءِ أفْعالِ المَقْتَدِرِ، ولَقَدْ أخَذَ بِجَوامِعِ الفَضْلِ مَنْ رَفَعَ نَفْسَهُ عَنْ سُوءِ... —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم It is when one possesses complete authority that the virtue of forgiveness becomes manifest. عِنْدَ كَمالِ القُدْرَةِ تَظْهَرُ فَضيلَةُ العَفْوِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Lack of forgiveness is the ugliest of flaws and rushing to exact revenge is the gravest of sins. قِلَّةُ العَفْوِ أقْبَحُ العُيُوبِ، والتَّسَرُّعُ إلَى الاِنْتِقامِ أعْظَمُ الذُّنُوبِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Accepting the excuse of a wrongdoer is from the acts that bring honour and the [is] the most... قَبُولُ عُذْرِ المُجْرِمِ مِنْ مَواجِبِ الكَرَمِ ومَحاسِنِ الشِّيَمِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Victory is a sufficient intercessor for the sinner. كَفى بِالظَّفَرِ شافِعاً لِلْمُذْنِبِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Be graciously forgiving when you become powerful and act justly when you are in authority. كُنْ جَميلَ العَفْوِ إذا قَدَرْتَ عامِلاً بِالعَدْلِ إذا مَلَكْتَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Be forgiving when you are powerful, generous in your affluence and altruistic despite your poverty,... كُنْ عَفُوّاً في قُدْرَتِكَ، جَواداً في عُسْرَتِكَ، مُؤْثِراً مَعَ فاقَتِكَ، يَكْمُلْ لَكَ الفَضْلُ >تَكْمُلُ لَكَ الفَضائِلُ)۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One who forgives wrongdoings has taken hold of the accumulation of merits. مَنْ عَفى عَنِ الجَرائِمِ فَقَدْ أخَذَ بِجَوامِعِ الفَضْلِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One who does not favour [others] with forgiveness, wrongs [them] through vengeance. مَنْ لَمْ يُحْسِنِ العَفْوَ أساءَ بِالاِنْتِقامِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Whoever does not accept repentance, his sin is great. مَنْ لَمْ يَقْبَلِ التَّوْبَةَ عَظُمَتْ خَطيئَتُهُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Overlooking [another’s] offence is part of religion. مِنَ الدّينِ التَّجاوُزُ عَنِ الجُرْمِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم How good is forgiveness while having ability [to exact revenge]! ما أحْسَنَ العَفْوَ مَعَ الاِقْتِدارِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم He who scolds [someone] for a sin has not forgiven it. ما عَفا عَنِ الذَّنْبِ مَنْ قَرَّعَ بِهِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Hastening in forgiving the sins [of others] is from the lofty morals of the honourable ones. مُعاجَلَةُ الذُّنُوبِ بِالغُفْرانِ مِنْ أخْلاقِ الكِرامِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Never feel regret for forgiving and never be gladdened by punishing. لاتَنْدَمَنَّ عَلى عَفْو، ولاتَبْهَجَنَّ بِعُقُوبَة۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Do not hasten the punishment for a sin and leave room between the two (i.e. the sin and punishment)... لاتُعاجِلْ الذَّنبَ بِالعُقُوبَةِ، واتْرُكْ بَيْنَهُما لِلْعَفْوِ مَوْضِعاً، تُحْرِزْ بِهِ الأجْرَ والمَثُوبَةَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم There is no clemency like pardon. لاحِلْمَ كالصَّفْحِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم There is nothing better than the forgiveness of a powerful person. لاشَيْءَ أحْسَنُ مِنْ عَفْوِ قادِر۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم A wrongdoer can never be faced with anything better than being shown forgiveness. لايُقابَلُ مُسىِءٌ قَطُّ بِأفْضَلَ مِنَ العَفْوِ عَنْهُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم It pleases me for a person to forgive the one who oppresses him, to establish ties with the one who... يُعْجِبُني مِنَ الرَّجُلِ أنْ يَعْفُوَ عَمَّنْ ظَلَمَهُ، ويَصِلَ مَنْ قَطَعَهُ، ويُعْطِيَ مَنْ حَرَمَهُ، ويُقابِلَ الإساءَةَ... —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Give people your forgiveness and pardon just as you would like Allah, the Glorified, to grant [it]... أعْطِ النّاسَ مِنْ عَفْوِكَ وصَفْحِكَ، مِثْلَ ما تُحِبُّ أنْ يُعْطِيَكَ اللّهُ سُبْحانَهُ، وعلى عَفْو فَلاتَنْدَمْ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Honour the one who loves you and pardon your enemy, [for by this] virtue will become complete for... اَكْرِمْ مَنْ وَدَّكَ، واصْفَحْ عَنْ عَدُوِّكَ، يَتِمَّ لَكَ الفَضْلُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
