Hardships

Continual strife is from the greatest tribulations. دَوامُ الفِتَنِ مِنْ أعْظَمِ المِحَنِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Sometimes you may be the cause of your own misfortune. رُبَّما دُهيتَ مِنْ نَفْسِكَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم To the extent of the hardship, there is reward. عَلى قَدْرِ المُصيبَةِ تَكُونُ المَثُوبَةُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Every time the value of a thing that is competed becomes great, the difficulty of losing it... كُلَّما عَظُمَ قَدْرُ الشَيْءِ المُنافَسِ عَلَيْهِ عَظُمَتِ الرَّزِيَّةُ لِفَقْدِهِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One who does not prepare himself to confront hardships [with patience and supplication], the... مَنْ لَمْ يَتَعَرَّضْ لِلنَّوائِبِ تَعَرَّضَتْ لَهُ النَّوائِبُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One who starts complaining about the hardship that has befallen him is actually only complaining... مَنْ أصْبَحَ يَشْكُو مُصيبَةً نَزَلَتْ بِهِ فَإنَّما يَشْكُو رَبَّهُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One who turns his attention away from this world, hardships become easy for him [to bear]. مَنْ لَهِيَ عَنِ الدُّنيا هانَتْ عَلَيْهِ المَصائِبُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One who hits his hand on his thigh in times of hardship has nullified his reward. مَنْ ضَرَبَ يَدَهُ عَلى فَخِذِهِ عِنْدَ مُصيبَة فَقَدْ أحْبَطَ أجْرَهُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One who exaggerates small hardships, Allah tries him with great ones. مَنْ عَظَّمَ صِغارَ المَصائِبِ اِبْتَلاهُ اللّهُ بِكِبارِها۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One who faces successive calamities acquires the merit of patience through them. مَنْ تَوالَتْ عَلَيْهِ نَكِباتُ الزَّمانِ أكْسَبَتْهُ فَضيلَةَ الصَّبْرِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One of the greatest hardships for the virtuous is having to socialize with the wicked. مِنْ أعْظَمِ مَصائِبِ الأخْيارِ حاجَتُهُمْ إلى مُداراةِ الأشْرارِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم How great is the hardship in this world when accompanied by the severe indigence of tomorrow (i.e.... ما أعْظَمَ المُصيبَةَ فِي الدُّنيا مَعَ عِظَمِ الفاقَةِ غَداً۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم A hardship that befalls others and has reward for you is better than the hardship that befalls you... مُصيبَةٌ في غَيْرِكَ لَكَ أجْرُها خَيْرٌ مِنْ مُصيبَة بِكَ لِغَيْرِكَ ثَوابُها وَأجْرُها۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم A hardship from which good is expected is better than a blessing for which gratitude is not... مُصيبَةٌ يُرْجى خَيْرُها خَيْرٌ مِنْ نِعْمَة لايُؤَدّى شُكْرُها۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Be happy with tribulation and pleased with affliction [as you will gain great reward for it]. كُنْ بِالبَلاءِ مَحْبُوراً، وبِالمَكارِهِ مَسْرُوراً۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The worst of adversities are those in which there is no reckoning [and recompense]. أكْرَهُ المَكارِهِ فيما لايُحْتَسَبُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Verily great reward accompanies great trials; so when Allah, the Glorified, loves a community, He... إنَّ عَظيمَ الأجْرِ مُقارِنٌ عَظيمَ البَلاءِ، فَإذا أحَبَّ اللّهُ سُبْحانَهُ قَوْماً اِبْتَلاهُمْ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The one who exposes himself to affliction puts himself in danger. المُتَعَرِّضُ لِلْبَلاءِ مُخاطِرٌ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Tribulation follows behind ease [and comfort]. اَلبَلاءُ رَديفُ الرَّخاءِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Many a person is shown sympathy for an affliction that is [actually] his cure. رُبَّ مَرْحُوم مِنْ بَلاء هُوَ دَواؤُهُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Many a person who is afflicted is made stronger by his affliction. رُبَّ مُبْتَليً مَصْنُوعٌ لَهُ (إلَيهِ) بِالبَلْوى۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The distress of tribulation [one faces] is proportionate to the blessings [one receives]. عَلى قَدْرِ النَّعْماءِ يَكُونُ مَضَضُ البَلاءِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Tribulation may come suddenly. قَدْ تُفاجِئُ البَلِيَّةُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Every tribulation other than the fire [of hell] is [a means to] wellbeing. كُلُّ بَلاء دُونَ النَّارِ عافِيَةٌ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
