The severest of hardships is [having] evil offspring.
أشَدُّ المَصائِبِ سُوءُ الخَلَفِ۔

اَلمَصائِبُ مِفْتاحُ الأجْرِ۔

Reward with Allah, the Glorified, is to the extent of the hardship undergone.
اَلثَّوابُ عِنْدَاللّهِ سُبْحانَهُ وتَعالى عَلى قَدْرِ المُصابِ۔

The hardship of [lacking] patience is the greatest of hardships.
اَلمُصيبَةُ بِالصَّبْرِ أعْظَمُ المَصائِبِ۔

Hardships are divided equally among the creatures.
اَلمَصائِبُ بِالسَّوِيَّةِ مَقْسُومَةٌ بَيْنَ البَريَّةِ۔

Hardship in religion is the greatest of hardships.
اَلمُصيبَةُ بِالدّينِ أعْظَمُ المَصائِبِ۔

The reward for [bearing] hardship is greater than the extent of the hardship [itself].
اَلثَّوابُ عَلَى المُصيبَةِ أعْظَمُ مِنْ قَدْرِ المُصِيبَةِ۔

Indeed you are the target of calamities and the object of sicknesses.
إنَّكُمْ هَدَفُ النَّوائِبِ، ودَريئَةُ الأسْقامِ۔

At times, tribulation may abase [a person].
قَدْ تُذِلُّ الرَّزِيَّةُ۔

When you see that Allah, the Glorified, is continuously testing you [with hardships], then [know...
إذا رَأيْتَ اللّهَ سُبْحانَهُ يُتابِعُ عَلَيْكَ البَلاءَ فَقَدْ أيْقَظَكَ۔

When hardships distance themselves, solace draws near.
إذا تَباعَدَتِ المُصيبَةُ، قَرُبَتِ السَّلْوَةُ۔

When you see your Lord continually testing you [with hardships] then be grateful to Him.
إذا رَأيْتَ رَبَّكَ يُوالي عَلَيْكَ البَلاءَ فَاشْكُرْهُ۔

When you fear the difficulty of an affair then be firm against it, it will yield to you; and...
إذا خِفْتَ صُعُوبَةَ أمْر فَاصْعُبْ لَهُ يَذِلُّ لَكَ، وخادِعِ الزَّمانَ عَنْ أحْداثِهِ تَهُنْ عَلَيْكَ۔

When tribulations come to you then sit and accept them, for indeed your standing up and confronting...
إذا أتَتْكَ المِحَنُ فَاقْعُدْ لَها فَإنَّ قِيامَكَ فيها زِيادَةٌ لَها۔

Through discomforts, Paradise is attained.
بِالمَكارِهِ تُنالُ الجَنَّةُ۔

Through calamities, happiness is spoiled.
بِالفَجايِعِ يَتَنَغَّصُ السُُّرُورُ۔

The harm that one faces in calamity is to the extent of [the loftiness of] one’s rank.
بِقَدْرِ عُلُوِّ الرَّفْعَةِ تَكُونُ نِكايَةُ الوَقْعَةِ۔

It is with great difficulty that lofty ranks and perpetual bliss are attained.
بِالتَّعَبِ الشَّديدِ تُدْرَكُ الدَّرَجاتُ الرَّفيعَةُ والرَّاحَةُ الدَّائِمَةُ۔

The trial of a man is proportionate to his faith and religion.
بَلاءُ الرَّجُلِ عَلى قَدْرِ إيمانِهِ وَدينِهِ۔

The tribulation of a man is in his submission to avarice and [false] and hope.
بَلاءُ الرَّجُلِ في طاعَةِ الطَّمَعِ والأمَلِ۔

Reward descends in proportion to the hardship [that one bears].
تَنْزِلُ المَثُوبَةُ عَلى قَدْرِ المُصيبَةِ۔
