The doer of evil is worse than the evil [itself].
فاعِلُ الشَّرِّ شَرٌّ مِنْهُ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
Doing evil is a [means of] revilement.
فِعْلُ الشَّرِّ مَسَبَّةٌ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
None shall be punished for an evil act except its doer.
لَنْ يَلْقى جَزاءَ الشَّرِّ إلاّ عامِلُهُ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
There is nothing worse than evil except its retribution.
لَيْسَ بِشَرّ مِنَ الشَّرِّ إلاّ عِقابُهُ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
There is nothing more corrupting for affairs or more destructive to the community than evil.
لَيْسَ شَيْءٌ أفْسَدَ لِلأُمُورِ، ولا أبْلَغَ في هَلاكِ الْجُمْهُورِ مِنَ الشَّرِّ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
He who does not wear the gown of good has not disrobed from evil.
لَمْ يَتَعَرَّ مِنَ الشَّرِّ مَنْ لَمْ يَتَجَلْبَبِ الْخَيْرَ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
One who plunges into the depths of evil meets with danger [and adversity].
مَنِ اقْتَحَمَ لُجِجَ الشُّرُورَ لَقِيَ المَحْذُوْرَ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
One who does evil has [actually] transgressed against his soul.
مَنْ فَعَلَ الشَّرَّ فَعَلى نَفْسِهِ اعْتَدى۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
One whose evil is too much, [even] his companion is not safe from him.
مَنْ كَثُر َ شَرُّهُ لَمْ يَأمَنْهُ مُصاحِبُهُ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
Whoever abandons evil, the doors of good are opened for him.
مَنْ تَرَكَ الشَّرَّ فُتِحَتْ عَلَيْهِ أبْوابُ الْخَيْرِ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
One who lays the foundation of evil cause has [actually] instituted it against himself.
مَنْ أسَّسَ أساسَ الشَّرِّ أسَّسَهُ عَلى نَفْسِِهِ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
One who provokes a latent evil, in it will be his own destruction.
مَنْ أثارَ كامِنَ الشَّرِّ كانَ فيهِ عَطَبُهُ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
One who harbor’s evil feelings [and ill will] for others has actually harmed himself.
مَنْ أضْمَرَ الشَّرَّ لِغَيْرِهِ فَقدْ بَدَأَ بِهِ نَفْسَهُ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
Whoever strips his heart of evil, his religion is secured and his conviction is confirmed.
مَنْ عَرى مِنَ الشَّرِّ قَلْبَهُ سَلِمَ لَهُ دينُهُ، وَصَدَقَ يَقينُهُ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
One who does not know the harmfulness of evil is not capable of desisting from it.
مَنْ لَمْ يَعْرِفْ مَضَرَّةَ الشَّرِّ لَمْ يَقْدِرْ علَى الاِمْتِناعِ مِنْهُ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
One who repels evil with good, triumphs?.
مَنْ دَفَعَ الشَّرَّ بِالخَيْرِ غَلَبَ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
One who hates evil is safeguarded [from it].
مَنْ كَرِهَ الشَّرَّ عُصِمَ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
One of the greatest deceptions is making evil appear good.
مِنْ أعْظَمِ الْمَكْرِ تَحْسينُ الشَّرِّ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
The ‘evil’ that is followed by Paradise is not [really] evil.
ما شَرٌّ بَعْدَهُ الْجَنَّةُ بِشَرّ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
The foundation of evil is avarice.
مِلاكُ الشَّرِّ الطَّمَعُ۔
—Ghurar al-Hikam
—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
One who is cautious of evil is like the one who does good.
مُتَّقِي الشَّرِّ كَفاعِلِ الْخَيْرِ۔
—Ghurar al-Hikam
—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
Never count as good that by which you attain evil.
لاتَعُدَّنَّ خَيْراً ما أدْرَكْتَ بِهِ شَرّاً۔

It behooves the one who recognizes the wicked to disassociate himself from them.
يَنْبَغي لِمَنْ عَرَفَ الأشرارَ أنْ يَعْتَزِلَهُمْ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
The evil of a man is evinced by his increased greed and his intense avarice.
يُسْتَدَلُّ عَلى شَرِّ الرَّجُلِ بِكَثْرَةِ شَرَهِهِ وشِدَّةِ طَمَعِهِ۔
