Hadith #5666

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

مَنْ صَبَرَ خَفَّتْ مِحْنَتُهُ۔

This can be translated as,

Whoever is patient, his torment is lightened.

In this Hadith, Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) emphasizes the importance of patience in alleviating difficulties and hardships.

The word (sabar) "صَبَرَ" in Arabic refers to patience, endurance, and steadfastness in the face of adversity. It is a quality highly praised in Islam and is considered one of the fundamental virtues of a believer. Patience is not simply enduring hardships passively, but it involves maintaining a positive attitude, persevering, and seeking solace in the remembrance of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ).

The word (khaffat) "خَفَّتْ" is derived from the root word (khaffa) "خَفَّ", which means to become light or to be made light. In the context of the Hadith, it refers to the lessening or easing of one's torment or difficulties. It implies that by practicing patience, one's burdens and hardships become more bearable and less overwhelming.

The concept of patience is emphasized throughout the Quran, and numerous verses highlight its significance in the life of a believer. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:153),

O you who have believed, seek help through patience and prayer. Indeed, Allah is with the patient.

This verse emphasizes the importance of seeking assistance from Allah through patience and prayer. It reminds Muslims that Allah is always with those who remain patient in the face of trials and tribulations.

In Surah Al-Imran (3:200), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,

O you who have believed, persevere and endure and remain stationed and fear Allah that you may be successful.

This verse encourages believers to persevere, endure, and remain steadfast in their faith. It reminds Muslims that success comes to those who remain patient and steadfast in their devotion to Allah.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Anfal (8:46), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) states,

And obey Allah and His Messenger, and do not dispute and [thus] lose courage and [then] your strength would depart; and be patient. Indeed, Allah is with the patient.

This verse emphasizes the importance of obedience to Allah and His Messenger, and it encourages believers to avoid disputes and remain patient. It reassures Muslims that Allah is with those who possess the quality of patience.

Reflecting on the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) and the supporting Quranic verses, we understand that patience is a virtue that brings immense rewards and blessings. By practicing patience, we can find solace in the face of difficulties, knowing that Allah is with us. Patience allows us to maintain a positive mindset, endure hardships, and seek Allah's help through prayer and supplication.
