مَنْ رُزِقَ الدّينُ فَقَدْ رُزِقَ خَيْرَ الدُّنيا والآخِرَةِ۔
One who is endowed with religion is endowed with the good of this world and the Hereafter.
— Imam Ali a.s.
(Ghurar al-Hikam: Religion And Sharia Law)
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.
The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,
مَنْ رُزِقَ الدّينُ فَقَدْ رُزِقَ خَيْرَ الدُّنيا والآخِرَةِ۔
This can be translated as,
One who is endowed with religion is endowed with the good of this world and the Hereafter.
Let us now delve into the deeper meaning of this profound Hadith in light of the Quran. The word (ruziqu) "رُزِقَ" comes from the root word (razaqa) "رَزَقَ", which means to provide sustenance or to endow. In this context, it refers to the spiritual sustenance of religion. The word (ad-deen) "الدِّينُ" refers to the complete system of beliefs, practices, and values that guide a person's life.
The Hadith emphasizes that when a person is blessed with the gift of religion, they are also blessed with the good of both this world and the Hereafter. This means that having a strong connection with Allah and following His guidance leads to success and prosperity in all aspects of life, both in this world and in the Hereafter.
The Quran provides numerous verses that support the message of this Hadith. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 201:
Our Lord, give us in this world [that which is] good and in the Hereafter [that which is] good and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.
This verse highlights the importance of seeking goodness in both worlds and seeking protection from the punishment of Hellfire.
Another verse that complements the Hadith is found in Surah An-Nahl, verse 97:
Whoever does righteousness, whether male or female, while he is a believer - We will surely cause him to live a good life, and We will surely give them their reward [in the Hereafter] according to the best of what they used to do.
This verse emphasizes that a righteous believer will be granted a good life in this world and a great reward in the Hereafter.
The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) serves as a reminder for Muslims to prioritize their religious obligations and seek closeness to Allah. By doing so, they will not only attain success in the Hereafter but also experience the blessings and goodness of this world.
When a person is endowed with religion, they are guided by the teachings of Islam, which encompass all aspects of life. This guidance leads to making righteous choices, treating others with kindness and justice, and striving for personal and societal development. Such individuals become a source of goodness and blessings for themselves and those around them.
Moreover, being endowed with religion provides a sense of purpose and contentment. It helps individuals navigate the challenges and trials of life with patience and resilience. They find solace in their connection with Allah and trust in His divine plan. This inner peace and tranquility are invaluable treasures that cannot be attained through material possessions alone.
Additionally, the Hadith reminds us that the true measure of success lies not in worldly achievements but in the state of our hearts and our relationship with Allah. Material wealth and worldly accomplishments may bring temporary satisfaction, but they do not guarantee true happiness and fulfillment. Only by nurturing our faith and seeking closeness to Allah can we attain everlasting success and contentment.
In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) teaches us that being endowed with religion is a great blessing that encompasses the good of both this world and the Hereafter. It reminds us to prioritize our spiritual well-being and seek closeness to Allah through righteous deeds and sincere worship. By doing so, we not only secure our eternal salvation but also experience the true blessings and goodness of this world. May Allah grant us the understanding and ability to live our lives in accordance with His guidance.
