Hadith #5663

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. Peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, the Ahl al-Bayt, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states:

لاتَسْتَعْجِلُوا بِما لَمْ يُعَجِّلْهُ اللّهُ لَكُمْ۔

This Hadith is a profound reminder for all Muslims to refrain from hastening or rushing into matters that Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) has not decreed or ordained for them.

To understand the significance of this Hadith, let us delve into the meanings of some key words. The word (la tasta'jilu) "لا تستعجلوا" translates to

do not make haste

or "do not rush." It emphasizes the importance of patience and deliberation in our actions and decisions. The word (bima) "بما" means "in that which" or "regarding what." It refers to any matter or situation that we may encounter in our lives. The phrase (lam yu'ajjilhu Allah lakum)

لم يعجله الله لكم

translates to

that which Allah has not hastened for you.

It highlights the fact that Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) has a divine plan and timing for everything, and we should not try to expedite or force things that are not meant to happen at a particular moment.

The Quran provides us with numerous verses that support the wisdom behind Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) advice in this Hadith. One such verse is found in Surah Yunus (10:107), where Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says:

And if Allah were to hasten for the people the evil [they invoke] as He hastens for them the good, their term would have been ended for them.

This verse reminds us that Allah's timing is perfect and that He knows what is best for us. If He were to grant our wishes and desires immediately, it may not always be in our best interest. Therefore, we should trust in His wisdom and exercise patience.

Another verse that aligns with the Hadith is found in Surah Al-An'am (6:67), where Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says:

For every matter is a [time of] decree.

This verse emphasizes that Allah has predetermined the timing and outcome of every matter. It serves as a reminder that we should not rush or try to manipulate the natural course of events. Instead, we should have faith in Allah's plan and wait for His decree to unfold.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) Hadith urges us to reflect on the consequences of our actions when we try to hasten things that are not meant for us. For example, if we rush into a marriage without proper consideration or consultation, it may lead to an unhappy and unstable relationship. Similarly, if we hastily make financial decisions without careful planning, we may face financial difficulties in the future. By heeding Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) advice, we can avoid such negative outcomes and instead make informed and wise choices.

This Hadith also teaches us the importance of contentment and trust in Allah's timing. When we constantly rush and strive for things that are not meant for us at a particular moment, we may become discontented and dissatisfied with our current circumstances. However, if we have faith in Allah's plan and patiently wait for His blessings, we will find peace and tranquility in our hearts.
