Hadith #5509

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states:

لاخَيْرَ في شَهادَةِ خائِن۔

This Hadith translates to:

There is no good in the testimony of the treacherous.

Let us delve into the connotation of this Hadith in light of the Quran.

First, let us understand the key words in this Hadith. The word (shahadah) "شَهادَةِ" refers to testimony or witness, while (kha'in) "خائِن" means treacherous or deceitful. O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm in justice, witnesses for Allah, even if it be against yourselves or parents and relatives. Whether one is rich or poor, Allah is more worthy of both. So follow not [personal] inclination, lest you not be just. And if you distort [your testimony] or refuse [to give it], then indeed Allah is ever, with what you do, Acquainted.

It is a reminder that our loyalty should be to Allah and His truth, above all else. Furthermore, in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:283), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says:

And do not conceal testimony, for whoever conceals it - his heart is indeed sinful, and Allah is Knowing of what you do.

This verse highlights the importance of not concealing or withholding truthful testimony. By doing so, one not only commits a sin but also displays a lack of integrity and honesty. It is essential to speak the truth and provide accurate testimony when called upon, as concealing the truth can lead to injustice and harm.
