إنَّما حُضَّ عَلَى المُشاوَرَةِ لأنَّ رَأْيَ المُشيرِ صِرفٌ ورَأيَ المُسْتَشيرِ مَشُوبٌ بِالهَوى۔
Indeed consultation has only been urged because the opinion of the adviser is unbiased while the opinion of the consulter is mixed with bias.

(Ghurar al-Hikam: Consultation And Deliberation)
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.
The provided Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) emphasizes the importance of consultation in decision-making. Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), known for his wisdom and knowledge, highlights the benefits of seeking advice from others. Let us delve into the deeper meaning of this Hadith and explore its implications in light of the Quran.
The word (mushawarah) "مُشاوَرَةِ" in the Hadith refers to consultation. It is derived from the root word (shawara) "شَاوَرَ", which means to seek counsel or advice. This word signifies the act of deliberating with others before making a decision. Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states that consultation is encouraged because the opinion of the adviser is unbiased, while the opinion of the consulter is mixed with bias.
To understand the significance of consultation, we can turn to the Quran for guidance. In Surah Al-Imran (3:159), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,
So by mercy from Allah, [O Muhammad], you were lenient with them. And if you had been rude [in speech] and harsh in heart, they would have disbanded from about you. So pardon them and ask forgiveness for them and consult them in the matter. And when you have decided, then rely upon Allah. Indeed, Allah loves those who rely [upon Him].
This verse highlights the importance of consultation in the context of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) seeking advice from his companions. It emphasizes the need for kindness, forgiveness, and seeking counsel from others before making decisions. By consulting with his companions, the Prophet (ﷺ) ensured that their opinions were heard and considered, fostering a sense of unity and collective decision-making.
Another verse that supports the concept of consultation is found in Surah Ash-Shura (42:38), where Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,
And those who have responded to their lord and established prayer and whose affair is [determined by] consultation among themselves, and from what We have provided them, they spend.
This verse highlights the characteristics of the believers who respond to their Lord, establish prayer, and make decisions through consultation. It emphasizes the importance of seeking advice from others and making collective decisions based on consultation. This approach ensures that decisions are made with a broader perspective, taking into account the diverse opinions and expertise of others.
Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) further explains the rationale behind the encouragement of consultation. He states that the opinion of the adviser is unbiased, free from personal inclinations or desires. On the other hand, the opinion of the consulter is mixed with bias, influenced by personal preferences or emotions.
This distinction emphasizes the importance of seeking advice from individuals who can provide objective and impartial perspectives. By doing so, one can avoid the pitfalls of personal biases and make more informed decisions. Consulting with others allows for a broader range of ideas and insights, leading to better outcomes and avoiding potential pitfalls that may arise from individual biases.
Moreover, the Hadith also highlights the importance of humility and recognizing the limitations of one's own knowledge and understanding. By seeking advice from others, one acknowledges that they may not possess all the necessary knowledge or insights to make the best decision alone. This humility fosters a sense of unity, cooperation, and shared responsibility among Muslims.
In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) emphasizes the significance of consultation in decision-making. It encourages Muslims to seek advice from others, as the opinions of advisers are unbiased, while the opinions of consulter are mixed with bias. This Hadith aligns with the Quranic teachings that emphasize the importance of consultation and collective decision-making. By consulting with others, Muslims can make more informed decisions, avoid personal biases, and foster unity within the community. May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) guide us to seek counsel from others and grant us the wisdom to make decisions that are pleasing to Him.
