Hadith #8627

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. Peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

In this profound hadith, Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) beautifully describes the Holy Qur'an by stating that it is a "shafi'un mushaffa'un" and a "qailun musaddiqun". Let us delve into the meanings of these words and explore their significance in light of the Qur'an.

The word "shafi'un" comes from the root word "shafa'a", which means intercession. Here, Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) is highlighting that the Qur'an is an intercessor, meaning it has the power to intercede on behalf of its reciters and supplicants. The intercession of the Qur'an is accepted by Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ), as it holds immense spiritual and divine authority. This intercession can manifest in various ways, such as seeking forgiveness for sins, seeking blessings and mercy, or even seeking guidance and protection.

The concept of intercession is mentioned in the Qur'an in several verses. One such verse is in Surah Al-Baqarah, where Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says, (Qur'an 2:255)

Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission?

This verse emphasizes that intercession can only occur with the permission of Allah, and the Qur'an is granted this privilege due to its divine nature and status.

The second part of the hadith states that the Qur'an is a "qailun musaddiqun", which means a speaker whose speech is affirmed. This highlights the authenticity and truthfulness of the Qur'an's message. Every word and verse of the Qur'an is a testament to the truth, and its speech is affirmed by Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) Himself. The Qur'an serves as a guide, providing clear and unambiguous teachings that Muslims can rely upon for guidance in all aspects of life.

The affirmation of the Qur'an's speech can be seen in various verses of the Qur'an itself. For example, in Surah Al-Baqarah, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says, (Qur'an 2:2)

This is the Book about which there is no doubt, a guidance for those conscious of Allah

This verse emphasizes the certainty and authenticity of the Qur'an's message, leaving no room for doubt or ambiguity.

Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) is highlighting the profound qualities of the Qur'an in this hadith. It serves as an intercessor, pleading on behalf of its reciters and supplicants, and its intercession is accepted by Allah. Additionally, the Qur'an is a speaker whose speech is affirmed, providing guidance and truth to all who seek it. Muslims should hold the Qur'an in the highest regard, seeking solace, guidance, and blessings through its recitation, understanding, and implementation in their lives.
