(Ghurar al-Hikam: The Believer)

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

The believers are such that their good deeds are expected and people are safe from their evil.

This beautiful saying highlights the noble character and conduct of the believers, emphasizing the trust and security they provide to others.

Let us delve into the exegesis of this Hadith by exploring the key words and their meanings. The word (believers) "مؤمنون" refers to those who have firm faith in Allah and His Messenger, and who strive to follow the teachings of Islam. The believers are characterized by their devotion, sincerity, and righteousness in their actions.

The word (their good deeds) "خيراتهم" signifies the righteous actions and deeds performed by the believers. These include acts of worship, kindness, charity, and all other virtuous acts that are in accordance with the teachings of Islam. The believers are known for their consistent and abundant good deeds, which are expected from them due to their strong faith and commitment to Allah.

On the other hand, the word (their evil) "شرورهم" refers to any harmful or negative actions that may be committed by the believers. However, the Hadith assures us that people are safe from the evil of the believers. This implies that the believers are not inclined towards causing harm or mischief to others. They are trustworthy, reliable, and their conduct is free from any malicious intent.

To further understand the significance of this Hadith, let us turn to the Quran for guidance. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Hujurat (49:13),

O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted.

This verse emphasizes the importance of righteous conduct and character in Islam. It teaches us that the true measure of superiority lies in righteousness and piety. The believers, as mentioned in the Hadith, are those who embody these qualities and are thus considered the best among people.

Another verse that complements the Hadith is found in Surah Al-Anfal (8:61), where Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,

And if they incline to peace, then incline to it [also] and rely upon Allah. Indeed, it is He who is the Hearing, the Knowing.

This verse encourages Muslims to strive for peace and to be trustworthy in their interactions with others. It further reinforces the idea that the believers are a source of safety and security for those around them.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) serves as a reminder for all Muslims to uphold the highest moral standards and to be a source of goodness and safety for others. It highlights the importance of trustworthiness, sincerity, and righteousness in our actions. By embodying these qualities, we not only fulfill our obligations as believers but also contribute to the betterment of society.

The believers, through their good deeds and virtuous conduct, inspire others to follow the path of righteousness. They create an environment of trust and security, where people feel safe from any harm or evil. This Hadith encourages us to reflect upon our own actions and strive to be among those who are known for their goodness and reliability.

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) reminds us of the noble character and conduct expected from believers. It emphasizes the importance of performing good deeds and being a source of safety and security for others. By embodying these qualities, we not only fulfill our duty as Muslims but also contribute to the betterment of society. May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) guide us all to be among the righteous and grant us the ability to inspire goodness in others.
