(Ghurar al-Hikam: Muhammad (S) And His Progeny)

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

In this profound Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), he states,

The People of Remembrance (or followers of the Qur’an) are the People of Allah and His favoured ones.

Let us delve into the deeper meaning of this Hadith and explore its implications in light of the Quran.

Firstly, it is important to understand the key words in this Hadith. The term (Ahl al-Dhikr) "أهْلُ الذِّكْرِ" refers to the People of Remembrance or the followers of the Qur’an. This includes those who recite, study, and reflect upon the teachings of the Qur’an. They are the ones who strive to understand and implement the guidance of Allah in their lives. The term (Ahl Allah) "أهْلُ اللّهِ" refers to the People of Allah, those who have a close relationship with Him and are devoted to His worship. And finally, the term (Hammatuhu) "حامَّتُهُ" means the favored ones or those who are close to Allah.

To further understand the significance of this Hadith, let us turn to the Quran for guidance. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 152:

So remember Me, and I will remember you.

This verse emphasizes the importance of remembrance of Allah, which is a key characteristic of the People of Remembrance mentioned in the Hadith. By constantly remembering Allah and His teachings, they establish a special connection with Him.

Additionally, in Surah Al-Anfal, verse 46, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says:

And obey Allah and His Messenger, and do not dispute and [thus] lose courage and [then] your strength would depart; and be patient. Indeed, Allah is with the patient.

This verse highlights the need to follow the guidance of Allah and His Messenger (). The People of Remembrance, as mentioned in the Hadith, are those who not only recite the Qur’an but also adhere to its teachings, following the commandments of Allah and the example of the Prophet Muhammad ().

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) emphasizes that the People of Remembrance are not only the followers of the Qur’an but also the chosen ones of Allah. Their dedication to the remembrance of Allah and their commitment to living a righteous life make them beloved to Allah. They are the ones who strive to embody the teachings of the Qur’an in their thoughts, words, and actions.

The consequences of being among the People of Remembrance are profound. By constantly remembering Allah and seeking His pleasure, they attain a higher spiritual status and are granted His blessings and guidance. They are guided by the light of the Qur’an, which illuminates their path and protects them from straying into darkness. Their hearts are filled with the love of Allah and their actions are guided by His wisdom and mercy.

Reflecting upon this Hadith, we are reminded of the importance of the Qur’an in our lives as Muslims. It is not enough to merely recite the words of the Qur’an; we must strive to understand its teachings and implement them in our daily lives. By doing so, we become among the People of Remembrance, the chosen ones of Allah. Let us make a conscious effort to deepen our connection with the Qur’an, seeking guidance and blessings from Allah, and striving to be among His favored ones.

May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) grant us the ability to be among the People of Remembrance and the chosen ones. May He bless us with the understanding and implementation of His noble book, the Qur’an. Ameen.
