Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. Peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

In this profound Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), he highlights three qualities that are beloved to Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). The first quality mentioned is being "approachable" or (السَّهْلَ النَّفْسِ) "easygoing". This refers to a person who is gentle, kind, and accommodating in their interactions with others. They are not harsh or rigid in their behavior, but rather, they make others feel comfortable and at ease in their presence.

This quality of being approachable is emphasized in the Quran as well. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Imran, verse 159:

So by mercy from Allah, [O Muhammad], you were lenient with them. And if you had been rude [in speech] and harsh in heart, they would have disbanded from about you.

This verse highlights the importance of being kind and gentle in dealing with others, as it fosters unity and cohesion within the community.

The second quality mentioned by Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) is having a (السَّمِحَ الخَليقَةِ) "tolerant disposition". This refers to a person who is patient, forgiving, and forbearing in their interactions with others. They do not easily get angry or hold grudges, but instead, they show understanding and forgiveness towards the shortcomings of others.

In the Quran, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) describes the believers as those who (Surah Al-Imran, verse 134)

restrain anger and pardon the people

This verse emphasizes the importance of having a tolerant disposition, as it is a characteristic of the righteous and a means of attaining Allah's love.

The third quality mentioned by Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) is being (القَريبَ الأمْرِ)

prompt in getting things done

This refers to a person who is proactive, efficient, and diligent in fulfilling their responsibilities and obligations. They do not procrastinate or delay in their actions, but rather, they are prompt and timely in their efforts.

In the Quran, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) praises those who are diligent and prompt in their actions. In Surah Al-Mu'minun, verse 61, Allah says,

Those who are constant in their prayer and spend from what We have provided them, they are the believers, truly, and they will have degrees [of high position] with their Lord and forgiveness and noble provision.

This verse highlights the importance of being prompt in fulfilling our religious obligations and responsibilities.

Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) presents these qualities as characteristics that are beloved to Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). By embodying these qualities, we not only earn the love and pleasure of Allah, but we also create an atmosphere of harmony, compassion, and productivity within our communities.

When a person is approachable, they create an environment where others feel comfortable and valued. This leads to better communication, understanding, and cooperation among individuals. It also fosters a sense of unity and brotherhood, as people are more likely to come together and work towards common goals when they feel welcomed and accepted.

Having a tolerant disposition allows us to overlook the faults and mistakes of others, and instead, focus on building positive relationships and resolving conflicts in a peaceful manner. It promotes forgiveness, empathy, and compassion, which are essential qualities for maintaining healthy and harmonious relationships within the Muslim community.

Being prompt in getting things done reflects a sense of responsibility and commitment. When we are diligent and efficient in fulfilling our obligations, we not only demonstrate our dedication to our faith and community, but we also set a positive example for others to follow. This quality enables us to make the most of our time and resources, and it contributes to the overall progress and development of our communities.

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) highlights the importance of being approachable, having a tolerant disposition, and being prompt in getting things done. These qualities are not only beloved to Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ), but they also contribute to the establishment of a strong, compassionate, and productive Muslim community. By embodying these qualities, we can strive to earn the love and pleasure of Allah, and create an atmosphere of unity, understanding, and progress among Muslims. May Allah guide us all to embody these qualities and earn His love.
