(Ghurar al-Hikam: Putting Trust In Allah)

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states, "كُلُّ مُتَوَكِّل مَكْفِيٌّ۔" which translates to

Everyone who puts his trust in Allah is catered for [and provided for by Him].

This beautiful saying of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) highlights the importance of relying on Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) and having complete trust in Him.

To better understand the significance of this Hadith, let us delve into the meanings of some key words. The word (mutawakkil) "مُتَوَكِّل" refers to someone who places their complete reliance and trust in Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). This person recognizes that all power and control lies in the hands of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) and submits themselves to His will.

The word (makfiyyun) "مَكْفِيٌّ" signifies being catered for or provided for by Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). It implies that Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) takes care of the needs and sustenance of those who place their trust in Him. This divine provision encompasses both material and spiritual aspects, ensuring that the believers are provided for in this world and the hereafter.

The Quranic verses beautifully support the exegesis of this Hadith. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah At-Talaq (65:3),

And whoever relies upon Allah - then He is sufficient for him.

This verse emphasizes that when a person places their trust in Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ), He becomes their sufficiency and fulfills their needs.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Ankabut (29:59), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) states,

And those who strive for Us - We will surely guide them to Our ways. And indeed, Allah is with the doers of good.

This verse highlights that those who rely on Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) and strive in His cause will be guided by Him and receive His support.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) Hadith reminds us of the importance of trusting in Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) in all aspects of our lives. When we place our complete reliance on Him, we acknowledge that He is the ultimate provider and sustainer. This trust in Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) brings about numerous benefits and blessings in our lives.

By relying on Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ), we find solace and peace in knowing that He is in control of all affairs. This trust strengthens our relationship with Him and deepens our faith. It also helps us navigate through the challenges and trials of life, knowing that Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) will provide for us and guide us on the right path.

Moreover, this Hadith encourages us to take practical steps towards relying on Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). We should strive to fulfill our obligations towards Him, such as performing our prayers, giving charity, and seeking knowledge. By doing so, we demonstrate our trust in Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) and open ourselves up to His divine assistance and blessings.

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) reminds us of the importance of placing our complete trust in Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). By relying on Him, we are assured of His provision and care in all aspects of our lives. This trust in Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) brings about peace, guidance, and blessings, enabling us to navigate through life with confidence and contentment. May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) grant us the ability to always trust in Him and seek His help in all our affairs.
