لَيْسَ لِمُتَوَكِّل عَناءٌ۔
There is no trouble [and distress] for the one who trusts in Allah.

(Ghurar al-Hikam: Putting Trust In Allah)
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.
The provided Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states, "لَيْسَ لِمُتَوَكِّل عَناءٌ۔" which translates to
There is no trouble [and distress] for the one who trusts in Allah.
This Hadith emphasizes the concept of tawakkul, which is the act of placing complete trust and reliance on Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) in all matters of life.
To understand the essence of this Hadith, let us delve into the key words and their significance. The word (mutawakkil) "مُتَوَكِّل" is derived from the root word (wakala) "وَكَلَ", which means to entrust or rely upon someone. In this context, it refers to the one who places their complete trust and reliance on Allah. The word (ana') "عَناءٌ" means trouble, hardship, or distress.
This Hadith is in perfect harmony with the teachings of the Quran, which repeatedly emphasizes the importance of tawakkul. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) assures us in Surah At-Talaq (65:3) by saying,
And whoever relies upon Allah - then He is sufficient for him.
This verse highlights the fact that when we place our trust in Allah, He becomes our ultimate source of support and protection.
Furthermore, in Surah Ash-Shura (42:36), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) states,
So rely upon Allah; indeed, you are upon the clear truth.
This verse encourages us to rely solely on Allah, as He is the source of all truth and guidance. By doing so, we can find solace and peace in the face of difficulties.
The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) reminds us that when we trust in Allah, we are freed from the burdens of worry and anxiety. This trust allows us to face challenges with a calm and steadfast heart, knowing that Allah is in control of all affairs. It does not mean that we will be exempt from facing trials and tribulations in life, but rather, it assures us that Allah will provide us with the strength and guidance to overcome them.
For example, imagine a person who is facing financial difficulties. Instead of becoming overwhelmed with worry and stress, they place their trust in Allah and rely on Him to provide for their needs. This person understands that their sustenance is ultimately in the hands of Allah, and they have full confidence that He will take care of them. As a result, they are able to face their financial challenges with a sense of peace and contentment, knowing that Allah's plan is perfect.
The consequences of trusting in Allah are profound. When we rely on Him, we develop a deep connection with our Creator and strengthen our faith. We recognize that Allah is the ultimate source of power and control, and we submit ourselves to His will. This trust in Allah also leads to a sense of contentment and tranquility, as we understand that everything that happens in our lives is part of His divine plan.
Moreover, trusting in Allah enables us to make better decisions and take calculated risks. When we have faith in His wisdom and guidance, we are more likely to step out of our comfort zones and pursue opportunities that align with our values and aspirations. This trust empowers us to face challenges head-on and overcome obstacles that may come our way.
In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) reminds us of the importance of placing our complete trust in Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). By relying on Him, we free ourselves from the burdens of worry and anxiety, and we find solace and peace in the face of difficulties. This trust in Allah strengthens our faith, enables us to make better decisions, and empowers us to face challenges with resilience and determination. May Allah grant us the ability to trust in Him wholeheartedly and may He alleviate our troubles and distress.
