Hadith #2176

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. May peace and blessings be upon the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his family, the Ahl al-Bayt, and his companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states:

الحازم من لم يشغله غرور دنياه عن العمل لآخراه

which translates to

The judicious person is one who is not too preoccupied with the deceptions of his world to work for his Hereafter.

Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) emphasizes that the judicious person is one who is not preoccupied or captivated by these deceptions. They do not allow the glitter and glamour of this world to distract them from their ultimate purpose in life - seeking the pleasure of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ).

To further understand the importance of prioritizing the Hereafter, let us turn to the Quran. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:201):

Our Lord, give us in this world [that which is] good and in the Hereafter [that which is] good and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.

This verse highlights the balanced approach that Muslims should adopt. It acknowledges the importance of seeking goodness in this world, but also emphasizes the significance of preparing for the eternal life in the Hereafter. The judicious person understands this balance and strives to strike it in their actions and priorities.

Another verse that aligns with the teachings of this Hadith is found in Surah Al-Kahf (18:46):

Wealth and children are [but] adornment of the worldly life. But the enduring good deeds are better to your Lord for reward and better for [one's] hope.

This verse reminds us that the adornments of this world, such as wealth and children, are temporary and fleeting. They may bring temporary pleasure and satisfaction, but the enduring good deeds performed for the sake of Allah are far superior in reward and eternal value. The judicious person understands this truth and focuses their efforts on actions that will benefit them in the Hereafter.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) Hadith serves as a reminder for Muslims to prioritize their actions and intentions.
