(Ghurar al-Hikam: Creation)

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. Peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure progeny, the Ahl al-Bayt, and his noble companions.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

كُلُّ مَخْلُوق يَجْري إلى ما لايَدْري۔

This wise utterance holds a deep understanding of the nature of creation and its inherent inclination towards the unknown.

Let us first delve into the meaning of the key words in this Hadith. The word "مَخْلُوق" refers to every created being, encompassing all living creatures, humans, and even inanimate objects. "يَجْرِي" signifies movement or progression, indicating the continuous journey of creation. And "ما لايَدْرِي" refers to the unknown, the unseen, or that which lies beyond the realm of our knowledge.

To understand the wisdom behind this Hadith, we can turn to the Quran, where Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) repeatedly emphasizes the transient nature of this world and the inevitability of our journey towards the unknown. Allah says in Surah Al-Ankabut (29:64),

And this worldly life is not but diversion and amusement. And indeed, the home of the Hereafter - that is the [eternal] life, if only they knew.

Here, Allah reminds us that the true purpose of our existence lies beyond the confines of this temporary world.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Qiyamah (75:36-37), Allah states,

Does man think that he will be left neglected? Had he not been a sperm from semen emitted?

These verses highlight the insignificance of our worldly existence and emphasize the fact that we were created from a mere drop of fluid. They serve as a reminder that our true purpose lies in seeking knowledge and progressing towards the divine.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) Hadith sheds light on the inherent nature of creation to constantly seek and move towards the unknown. This inclination is deeply rooted within us and is a reflection of our innate desire to seek knowledge, truth, and ultimately, our Creator. It is this very desire that drives humanity to explore the mysteries of the universe, to seek scientific advancements, and to strive for personal growth and spiritual enlightenment.

However, this Hadith also serves as a reminder of the limitations of human knowledge. Despite our relentless pursuit of knowledge, there will always be aspects of the unknown that elude us. This humbling realization should instill in us a sense of humility and a recognition of our dependence on Allah's infinite wisdom and knowledge.

Moreover, this Hadith encourages us to reflect upon the consequences of our actions. As we journey towards the unknown, every decision we make, every step we take, has the potential to shape our destiny. It reminds us to be mindful of our choices, to seek guidance from the Quran and the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (), and to strive for righteousness in all aspects of our lives.

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) serves as a profound reminder of the inherent inclination of creation towards the unknown. It highlights the transient nature of this world and the importance of seeking knowledge, truth, and ultimately, our Creator. It encourages us to reflect upon the consequences of our actions and to strive for righteousness in all aspects of our lives. May Allah guide us on this journey of seeking knowledge and grant us the wisdom to navigate the unknown with faith and humility.
