(Ghurar al-Hikam: The Hereafter)

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure and noble Ahl al-Bayt, and his righteous companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states, "الآخِرَةُ فَوْزُ السُّعَدَاءِ" which translates to

The Hereafter is the victory of the felicitous.

This impactful Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) highlights the ultimate success and triumph that awaits the righteous believers in the life to come.

To understand the depth and significance of this Hadith, let us delve into the meanings of some key words. "الآخِرَةُ" refers to the Hereafter, the eternal life that follows our temporary existence in this world. It encompasses the Day of Judgment, the recompense for our deeds, and the eternal abode of either paradise or hellfire. "فَوْزُ" means victory or success, indicating that the Hereafter is not merely a destination, but a state of ultimate achievement and fulfillment. And "السُّعَدَاءِ" refers to the felicitous or the fortunate ones, those who have attained true happiness and bliss.

The Quran provides us with numerous verses that support and amplify the message of this Hadith. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:197),

And take provisions, but indeed, the best provision is Taqwa. So fear Me, O you of understanding.

This verse emphasizes the importance of preparing for the Hereafter by cultivating God-consciousness (Taqwa) in our hearts. The true victory lies in attaining Taqwa, as it leads to success in both this world and the Hereafter.

In Surah Al-Ma'idah (5:119), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,

Allah will say, 'This is the Day when the truthful will benefit from their truthfulness. For them are gardens [in Paradise] beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever, Allah being pleased with them, and they with Him. That is the great attainment.'

This verse highlights the reward of the truthful believers on the Day of Judgment. Their sincerity and truthfulness will be the means of their success and felicity in the Hereafter.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Ankabut (29:64), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) states,

And this worldly life is not but diversion and amusement. And indeed, the home of the Hereafter - that is the [eternal] life, if only they knew.

This verse reminds us that the pleasures and distractions of this worldly life are temporary and fleeting. The true and everlasting life is the Hereafter, where the felicitous ones will find eternal joy and fulfillment.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) Hadith serves as a reminder and motivation for Muslims to strive for righteousness and piety in this world, knowing that the ultimate victory lies in the Hereafter. It encourages us to prioritize our actions and intentions, seeking the pleasure of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) above all else. By adhering to the teachings of Islam, performing good deeds, and avoiding sins, we can attain the felicity and success promised in the Hereafter.

Reflecting on this Hadith, we realize that our choices and actions in this world have profound consequences in the Hereafter. It compels us to constantly evaluate our priorities and align them with the teachings of the Quran and the example of the Prophet Muhammad () and his Ahl al-Bayt. We must strive to be among the felicitous ones, who will be granted eternal happiness and bliss in the presence of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ).

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) reminds us that the Hereafter is the ultimate victory and success for the felicitous believers. It urges us to prioritize our actions and intentions in this world, seeking the pleasure of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) and preparing for the eternal life to come. By striving for righteousness and adhering to the teachings of Islam, we can attain the felicity and success promised in the Hereafter. May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) guide us all on the path of righteousness and grant us success in this world and the Hereafter.
