(Ghurar al-Hikam: Being Pleased And Satisfied)

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The provided Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) highlights the divine decree of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) and the benefit that lies within it for His servants. Let us delve into the exegesis of this profound statement in light of the Quran.

The key words in this Hadith are (decree) "قَضَى", (satisfied) "فَرَضِيَ", and (benefit) "الخِيَرَةُ". The word "قَضَى" refers to the divine decree or decision made by Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). It encompasses all aspects of life, including both trials and blessings. "فَرَضِيَ" means being content or satisfied with the decree of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). It implies accepting and embracing whatever Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) has decreed for us. Lastly, "الخِيَرَةُ" refers to the benefit or goodness that lies within the decree of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ).

To understand the significance of this Hadith, we can turn to the Quran for guidance. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 216:

But perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you; and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you. And Allah knows, while you know not.

This verse emphasizes that sometimes we may dislike or be dissatisfied with certain events or circumstances in our lives, but in reality, they may hold great benefit for us. Our limited knowledge and understanding cannot comprehend the wisdom behind Allah's decree. Therefore, it is essential for us as Muslims to trust in Allah's wisdom and be content with His decisions.

Another verse that supports the message of this Hadith is found in Surah Al-Qasas, verse 55:

And when they hear ill speech, they turn away from it and say, 'For us are our deeds, and for you are your deeds. Peace will be upon you; we seek not the ignorant.'

This verse teaches us to detach ourselves from negative speech or criticism and focus on our own actions. It reminds us that our responsibility is to strive towards righteousness and leave the rest to Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). By being satisfied with Allah's decree, we can maintain inner peace and avoid unnecessary conflicts.

Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) in this Hadith is emphasizing the importance of accepting and embracing Allah's decree, regardless of our personal preferences. When we are content with what Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) has decreed for us, we open ourselves up to the countless blessings and opportunities that lie within His plan. This contentment brings about a sense of tranquility and peace in our hearts, knowing that Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) is the best of planners.

Moreover, being satisfied with Allah's decree also reflects our trust and faith in His infinite knowledge and wisdom. We acknowledge that Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) knows what is best for us, even when we may not fully comprehend it. This acceptance of Allah's decree strengthens our relationship with Him and deepens our reliance on His guidance.

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) reminds us of the importance of being content with Allah's decree. It teaches us to trust in His wisdom and embrace whatever He has ordained for us. By doing so, we open ourselves up to the countless blessings and benefits that lie within His plan. May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) grant us the strength and understanding to accept His decree with contentment and gratitude.
