— Imam Ali a.s.
(Ghurar al-Hikam: The Hereafter)

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

لِكُلِ شيْء مِنَ الآخِرَةِ خُلُودٌ وَبَقاءٌ

which translates to

Everything in the Hereafter has perpetuity and everlastingness.

This beautiful Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) highlights the eternal nature of the Hereafter, emphasizing that nothing in the afterlife is temporary or fleeting.

To understand the depth and significance of this Hadith, we can turn to the Quran for guidance. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) repeatedly emphasizes the eternal nature of the Hereafter and the consequences of our actions in this life. In Surah Al-Qasas, verse 84, Allah says,

But whoever comes to Him as a believer having done righteous deeds - for those will be the highest degrees [in position].

This verse affirms that those who believe in Allah and perform righteous deeds will be rewarded with elevated ranks in the Hereafter, indicating the everlasting nature of their reward.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Kahf, verse 46, Allah states,

Wealth and children are [but] adornment of the worldly life. But the enduring good deeds are better to your Lord for reward and better for [one's] hope.

This verse reminds us that worldly possessions and relationships are temporary, while the good deeds we perform in this life will have everlasting benefits in the Hereafter. It reinforces the idea that the Hereafter is a realm of eternal existence, where the consequences of our actions will endure.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) statement serves as a reminder for Muslims to prioritize their actions and intentions in this world, recognizing that the choices we make have eternal consequences. It encourages us to focus on building a strong foundation for the Hereafter by engaging in acts of worship, seeking knowledge, and striving for righteousness.

For example, if we reflect on the act of giving charity, we can see its perpetual impact in the Hereafter. In Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 261, Allah says,

The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is like a seed [of grain] which grows seven spikes; in each spike is a hundred grains. And Allah multiplies [His reward] for whom He wills. And Allah is all-Encompassing and Knowing.

This verse illustrates that the act of giving charity not only benefits the recipient in this world but also multiplies the reward for the giver in the Hereafter. The impact of this act continues to grow and bear fruit, highlighting the perpetual nature of good deeds in the Hereafter.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) statement also serves as a reminder of the temporary nature of this worldly life. In Surah Al-Hadid, verse 20, Allah says,

Know that the life of this world is but amusement and diversion and adornment and boasting to one another and competition in increase of wealth and children.

This verse reminds us that the attractions and distractions of this world are fleeting and transitory. It encourages us to shift our focus towards the Hereafter, where true permanence and everlastingness lie.

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) emphasizes the eternal nature of the Hereafter and the consequences of our actions in this life. It serves as a reminder for Muslims to prioritize their actions and intentions, recognizing that the choices we make have everlasting consequences. By seeking knowledge, performing righteous deeds, and focusing on the Hereafter, we can build a strong foundation for eternal success. May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) guide us all on the path of righteousness and grant us everlasting bliss in the Hereafter.
