مِنْ خَزائِنِ الغَيْبِ تَظْهَرُ الْحِكْمَةُ۔
From the treasures of the unseen comes forth wisdom.
— Imam Ali a.s.
(Ghurar al-Hikam: Wisdom)
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his purified progeny, and his noble companions.
The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,
مِنْ خَزَائِنِ الْغَيْبِ تَظْهَرُ الْحِكْمَةُ۔
This beautiful saying of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) can be translated as,
From the treasures of the unseen comes forth wisdom.
Let us delve into the meaning of some important words in this Hadith. The word (khaza'in) "خَزَائِنِ" refers to treasures or hidden treasures. It signifies something valuable and precious that is concealed or hidden from plain sight. The word (al-ghayb) "الْغَيْبِ" refers to the unseen or the realm beyond our perception. It encompasses knowledge and realities that are beyond the grasp of our senses.
Now, let us turn to the Quran to find support for the profound wisdom contained in this Hadith. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-An'am (6:59),
And with Him are the keys of the unseen; none knows them except Him. And He knows what is on the land and in the sea. Not a leaf falls but that He knows it. And no grain is there within the darknesses of the earth and no moist or dry [thing] but that it is [written] in a clear record.
This verse highlights the vast knowledge and wisdom that Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) possesses. He holds the keys to the unseen, and nothing escapes His knowledge, whether it is on land, in the sea, or even the falling of a single leaf. This demonstrates the limitless treasures of wisdom that are hidden from our sight but are known to Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ).
Another verse that supports the concept of hidden wisdom is found in Surah Al-An'am (6:73), where Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,
And it is He who created the heavens and the earth in truth. And the day He says, 'Be,' and it is, His word is the truth. And His is the dominion on the Day the Horn is blown. [He is] Knower of the unseen and the witnessed; and He is the Wise, the Acquainted.
This verse emphasizes the absolute wisdom of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ), who created the heavens and the earth with perfect precision and knowledge. He is the Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, and His wisdom is beyond measure. It is from these treasures of the unseen that wisdom emerges, as Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) has stated.
Now, let us reflect on the essence of this Hadith. The treasures of the unseen are vast and encompass knowledge and wisdom that are beyond our comprehension. They are not limited to the physical world that we perceive with our senses. Rather, they include spiritual insights, divine guidance, and profound understanding of the universe and our existence.
Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), known for his unparalleled wisdom and knowledge, reminds us that wisdom emerges from these hidden treasures. It is through seeking knowledge, contemplating the signs of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) in the creation, and reflecting on the teachings of the Quran that we can tap into these treasures and attain true wisdom.
By recognizing the existence of these hidden treasures, we are motivated to embark on a journey of seeking knowledge and understanding. We are encouraged to ponder upon the verses of the Quran, reflect on the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), and study the lives and teachings of the Ahl al-Bayt (عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلسَّلَامُ). Through this pursuit, we can unlock the treasures of the unseen and gain wisdom that guides us in all aspects of our lives.
The consequences of embracing this wisdom are profound. It enables us to make informed decisions, navigate through the complexities of life, and attain spiritual growth. Wisdom allows us to see beyond the surface level and perceive the deeper meanings and purposes behind events and experiences. It empowers us to act with righteousness, justice, and compassion, aligning our actions with the divine will.
In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) reminds us of the vast treasures of wisdom that lie hidden in the unseen. By seeking knowledge, reflecting on the Quran, and following the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) and his purified progeny, we can tap into these treasures and attain true wisdom. This wisdom guides us in our journey towards Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) and enables us to lead a purposeful and righteous life. May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) grant us the ability to seek and embrace this wisdom.
