Hadith #7969

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure and noble Ahl al-Bayt, and his righteous companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states:

مَنْ كَشَفَ حِجابَ أخيهِ اِنْكَشَفَ عَوْراةُ بَيْتِهِ(بَنِيهِ)

which translates to:

Whoever exposes his brother's veil [and reveals his flaws], the faults of his own household (or family) get exposed.

Let us delve into the important words and concepts present in this Hadith. The word (kashafa) "كَشَفَ" means to uncover or expose, while (hijab) "حِجَاب" refers to a veil or covering. (akhīhi) "أخيهِ" means his brother, signifying a fellow Muslim. (awrah) "عَوْرَة" refers to the private parts or flaws that should be concealed. Finally, (baytihī) "بَيْتِهِ" can be understood as one's household or family.

To understand the beautiful message of this Hadith, we can turn to the Quran for guidance. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Hujurat (49:11):

O you who have believed, let not a people ridicule [another] people; perhaps they may be better than them; nor let women ridicule [other] women; perhaps they may be better than them. And do not insult one another and do not call each other by [offensive] nicknames. Wretched is the name of disobedience after [one's] faith. And whoever does not repent - then it is those who are the wrongdoers.

This verse emphasizes the importance of not exposing the flaws or ridiculing others, as it can lead to harm and discord within the community. It reminds us to treat others with respect and refrain from engaging in harmful speech or actions. By exposing the faults of our brothers and sisters, we not only violate their rights but also risk exposing the faults within our own families.

Another verse that sheds light on the consequences of exposing others is found in Surah Al-Qalam (68:10):

Indeed, the punishment of your Lord is severe and enduring.

This verse serves as a reminder that Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) is the ultimate judge and will hold us accountable for our actions. Exposing the flaws of others can lead to severe consequences, both in this world and the hereafter.
