The world will bend towards us after having been refractory as the biting she-camel bends towards its young. Then Amir al-mu'minin recited the verse: And intend We to bestow (Our) favour upon those who were considered weak in the land, and to make them the Imams (guides in faith), and to make them the heirs. (Qur'an, 28:5)
— Imam Ali a.s.
(Nahj al-Balagha — Peak of Eloquence: Hadith #209)
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds, and blessings be upon Muhammad (ﷺ) and his pure progeny, the Ahl al-Bayt, as well as his noble companions.
In this profound Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), he beautifully describes the transformation that will occur in the world towards the Ahl al-Bayt, after it had been resistant and obstinate. The Imam uses the analogy of a biting she-camel, which is known for its stubbornness and resistance, bending towards its young. This imagery highlights the eventual submission and inclination of the world towards the Ahl al-Bayt, despite its initial resistance.
To further emphasize his point, Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) recites a verse from the Quran, specifically from Surah Al-Qasas (Chapter 28), verse 5:
And intend We to bestow (Our) favour upon those who were considered weak in the land, and to make them the Imams (guides in faith), and to make them the heirs.
This verse from the Quran supports the exegesis of the Hadith by highlighting Allah's intention to bestow His favor upon those who were considered weak in society. The Ahl al-Bayt, including Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), were initially oppressed and marginalized by the society of their time. However, Allah, in His infinite wisdom, chose them to be the Imams and guides in faith, as well as the rightful heirs of His divine knowledge and authority.
The exegesis of this Hadith reveals profound insights into the position and role of the Ahl al-Bayt in the world. Despite facing persecution and opposition, they were destined to be the leaders and guides for humanity. This divine favor bestowed upon them is a testament to their knowledge, wisdom, and righteousness.
The analogy of the biting she-camel bending towards its young signifies the eventual submission of the world towards the Ahl al-Bayt. Just as the she-camel, known for its stubbornness, eventually bends towards its young out of love and care, the world will also recognize the truth and righteousness of the Ahl al-Bayt and turn towards them.
This Hadith serves as a reminder for Muslims to recognize the authority and guidance of the Ahl al-Bayt, particularly Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), who possessed unparalleled knowledge and wisdom. It encourages us to reflect on the consequences of resisting the truth and the eventual submission that will occur.
Moreover, this Hadith also highlights the importance of recognizing the weak and marginalized in society. Allah's intention to bestow His favor upon them and make them the Imams and heirs serves as a reminder for Muslims to stand up for justice and support those who are oppressed. It is a call to emulate the example of the Ahl al-Bayt in their compassion and care for the weak and vulnerable.
In conclusion, this Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) provides profound insights into the eventual submission of the world towards the Ahl al-Bayt, as well as the divine favor bestowed upon them. It reminds Muslims of the importance of recognizing the weak and oppressed in society and emulating the example of the Ahl al-Bayt in their compassion and care. May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) guide us all to the truth and enable us to follow the path of the Ahl al-Bayt.
