Hadith #705

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his purified progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

شرُّ الأصحابِ السَّريعُ الإنقِلابِ,

which translates to,

The worst companion is the one who changes [his loyalty] quickly.

This Hadith highlights the negative qualities of a companion who swiftly alters his allegiance or loyalty.

To understand the significance of this Hadith, let us delve into the meanings of the key words. The word (as-haab) "أصحاب" refers to companions or associates. (as-saree'u) "السَّريعُ" means quick or hasty, and (al-inqilaab) "الإنقِلابِ" denotes a change or shift.

In the Quran, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) emphasizes the importance of loyalty and steadfastness. In Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 208, Allah says,

O you who have believed, enter into peace completely and do not follow the footsteps of Satan. Indeed, he is to you a clear enemy.

This verse highlights the need for Muslims to remain steadfast in their faith and not be swayed by the temptations of Satan.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Imran, verse 102, Allah warns against changing one's allegiance or faith. He says,

O you who have believed, fear Allah as He should be feared and do not die except as Muslims [in submission to Him].

This verse reminds us of the importance of remaining firm in our commitment to Islam and not wavering in our loyalty.

We should strive to be companions who are reliable, trustworthy, and committed to the principles of Islam. By doing so, we contribute to the strength and unity of the Muslim community, and we earn the pleasure of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ).
