— Imam Ali a.s.
(Ghurar al-Hikam: Seeking Support)

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure Ahl al-Bayt, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

مَنْ إنْتَصَرَ بِاللّهِ عَزَّ نَصْرُهُ۔

This can be translated as,

Whoever seeks support from Allah attains a glorious victory.

Let us delve into the meaning of some important words in this Hadith. The word (intasar) "إنتصر" means to achieve victory or triumph. It signifies a state of overcoming challenges and obstacles. The word (billahi) "بِاللّهِ" means by or through Allah, indicating that the victory is attained through seeking support and assistance from Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ).

To understand the wise message of this Hadith, we can turn to the Quran for guidance. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Hajj, verse 40:

Indeed, Allah will support those who support Him. Indeed, Allah is Powerful and Exalted in Might.

This verse emphasizes the reciprocity of seeking support from Allah. When we seek His support, He, in turn, supports us. It is a divine promise that Allah will aid those who sincerely seek His assistance.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Anfal, verse 30, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) states:

And [remember] when those who disbelieved plotted against you to restrain you or kill you or evict you [from Makkah]. But they plan, and Allah plans. And Allah is the best of planners.

This verse highlights the victory that was granted to the Prophet Muhammad () and the early Muslims, despite the plots and schemes of their enemies. It demonstrates that true victory comes from Allah, and He is the ultimate planner and supporter.

Now, let us reflect on the exegesis of the Hadith itself. Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), known for his deep knowledge and wisdom, teaches us that true victory lies in seeking support from Allah. This encompasses both the physical and spiritual realms. When faced with challenges, whether they be personal, societal, or even on a global scale, we should turn to Allah for guidance, strength, and assistance.

Seeking support from Allah involves placing our trust in Him, relying on His wisdom, and following His guidance. It means turning to Him in times of difficulty, seeking His forgiveness, and striving to align our actions with His commands. This reliance on Allah is not passive; rather, it is accompanied by sincere efforts and actions on our part.

When we seek support from Allah, we are acknowledging our dependence on Him and recognizing that true victory is not solely determined by worldly measures. It is a victory that encompasses both this life and the hereafter. It is a victory that brings peace, contentment, and success in this world, as well as eternal bliss in the hereafter.

The consequences of seeking support from Allah are profound. It instills within us a sense of purpose, resilience, and hope. It empowers us to face challenges with courage and determination, knowing that Allah is with us every step of the way. It strengthens our faith and deepens our connection with our Creator.

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) teaches us that true victory lies in seeking support from Allah. It reminds us that success is not solely determined by our own efforts, but rather by the divine assistance and guidance that Allah provides. By turning to Allah, we can overcome any obstacle and attain a glorious victory in this life and the hereafter. May Allah grant us the wisdom and strength to seek His support in all aspects of our lives.
