Hadith #9149

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. Peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

الكرم تحمل أعباء المغارم

which translates to

Munificence is bearing the [heavy] burdens of [other people’s] liabilities.

This thought-provoking Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) highlights the virtue of generosity and magnanimity, specifically in the context of shouldering the financial and emotional burdens of others.

Righteousness is not that you turn your faces toward the east or the west, but [true] righteousness is [in] one who believes in Allah, the Last Day, the angels, the Book, and the prophets and gives wealth, in spite of love for it, to relatives, orphans, the needy, the traveler, those who ask [for help], and for freeing slaves.

This verse highlights the importance of giving wealth to those in need, even if it means sacrificing our own desires and attachments to material possessions.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Isra (17:80), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,

And say: My Lord! Cause me to come in with a firm incoming and to go out with a firm outgoing. And give me from Thy presence a sustaining Power.

This verse emphasizes the need for seeking Allah's assistance and sustenance in order to fulfill our obligations towards others. It reminds us that true munificence comes from relying on Allah's strength and support.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) Hadith encourages us to embody the spirit of generosity and selflessness by taking on the burdens of those who are in need. It calls upon us to extend our support and assistance to others, not only in terms of material wealth but also in terms of emotional and psychological support.
