Hadith #9451

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

In this profound Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), he responds to the statement that the people of Kufa can only be reformed through the use of the sword. Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states that if their reformation can only be achieved through his own destruction, then may Allah not reform them.

And when he turns away [from you], his effort in the land is to cause corruption therein and to destroy crops and animals. And Allah does not like corruption.

This verse warns against those who seek to cause corruption and destruction in the land. It reminds us that such actions are not pleasing to Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). Instead, true reform requires positive efforts to build and improve society, not tear it down.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) response in this Hadith reflects his deep understanding of the Quranic teachings. He recognizes that violence and destruction only breed more violence and destruction.
