Hadith #4303

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

بِبَذْلِ الرَّحْمَةِ تُسْتَنْزَلُ الرَّحْمَةُ۔

This Hadith emphasizes the importance of showing compassion and kindness towards others, as it is through these acts that divine mercy descends upon us.

Let us delve deeper into the key words of this Hadith to gain a better understanding. The word (badhl) "بَذْلِ" means to give or bestow, while (ar-rahmah) "الرَّحْمَةِ" refers to mercy. The word (tustanzalu) "تُسْتَنْزَلُ" can be translated as "descends" or "comes down." Furthermore, in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:195), Allah instructs the believers,

Allah is merciful to those who show mercy to others. Show mercy to those on earth, and the One above the heavens will show mercy to you.

This Hadith further emphasizes the importance of extending mercy to all creatures, as it is through this act that we receive divine mercy.

Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), known for his immense knowledge and wisdom, understood the significance of showing compassion. He was a shining example of mercy and kindness, not only towards his companions but also towards his enemies. His famous saying,

People are of two types: they are either your brothers in faith or your equals in humanity,

reflects his deep understanding of the importance of treating all individuals with compassion and respect.
