في لُزُومِ الحَقِّ تَكُونُ السَّعادَةُ۔
In adhering to the truth, there is prosperity.
— Imam Ali a.s.
(Ghurar al-Hikam: The Truth)
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.
The provided Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,
In adhering to the truth, there is prosperity.
Let us delve into the essence of this statement and explore its significance in light of the Quranic teachings.
The word "luzum" in Arabic, translated as "adhering," implies a firm commitment and steadfastness towards the truth. It signifies the act of holding onto the truth with unwavering determination, regardless of the challenges and temptations that may arise. This word highlights the importance of not only recognizing the truth but also actively embracing it and living by its principles.
The word "haqq" in Arabic, translated as "truth," encompasses various meanings in the Quran. It refers to the ultimate reality, the divine guidance revealed by Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ), and the principles of justice, righteousness, and sincerity. The truth is the opposite of falsehood, and it is the path that leads to spiritual and worldly prosperity.
The Hadith emphasizes that in adhering to the truth, there is prosperity. This prosperity encompasses both spiritual and worldly aspects. Let us explore this concept further by referring to the Quranic verses that shed light on the blessings and benefits of adhering to the truth.
Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Yunus (10:62-64):
No doubt! Verily, the friends of Allah are those on whom fear (when they remember Allah) falls, and those who keep their duty to Him (by abstaining from all kinds of sins and evil deeds), and those who believe in the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) of their Lord, and those who do not join partners in worship with their Lord, and those who give what they give (in charity) while their hearts are full of fear (whether their alms and charities, etc., have been accepted or not), because they are sure to return to their Lord (for reckoning). It is these who race for the good deeds, and they are foremost in them. And We burden not any person except according to his capacity, and with Us is a Record which speaks the truth, and they will not be wronged.
This verse highlights the qualities of the friends of Allah, who are those who adhere to the truth. They fear Allah, fulfill their duties towards Him, believe in His signs, worship Him alone, and give generously while having a sense of accountability. These individuals are blessed with a sense of tranquility, contentment, and spiritual prosperity.
Furthermore, in Surah Al-Ankabut (29:69), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says:
And those who strive in Our (cause), We will certainly guide them to Our Paths: For verily Allah is with those who do right.
This verse assures us that those who strive in the cause of Allah, adhering to the truth, will be guided by Him. They will be granted wisdom, clarity, and divine support in their endeavors. This guidance leads to success and prosperity in both this world and the hereafter.
The consequences of adhering to the truth are not limited to personal benefits but extend to society as a whole. When individuals uphold the truth, they contribute to the establishment of justice, righteousness, and harmony in their communities. This adherence to truth leads to a society that is free from corruption, oppression, and falsehood.
Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), known for his profound knowledge and wisdom, emphasized the importance of adhering to the truth in various aspects of life. He exemplified this through his actions, decisions, and teachings. His unwavering commitment to truth and justice earned him the title of "Lion of Allah" and made him a role model for Muslims throughout history.
In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) reminds us of the profound significance of adhering to the truth. It highlights the spiritual and worldly prosperity that accompanies such adherence. By embracing the truth and living by its principles, we not only attain personal success and contentment but also contribute to the betterment of society. May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) grant us the strength and guidance to always adhere to the truth and seek prosperity in all aspects of our lives.
