Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

نالَ الفَوْزَ مَنْ وُفِّقَ لِلْطّاعَةِ۔

This can be translated as,

He who has been granted success in obeying [and worshipping Allah] has [truly] gained success.

Let us delve into the deeper meaning of this enlightening saying of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) in light of the Quran. The key word in this Hadith is (wuffiqa) "وُفِّقَ", which means to be granted success or to be facilitated. It implies that success in obeying and worshiping Allah is not solely dependent on our own efforts, but rather it is a blessing and favor bestowed upon us by Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ).

The Quranic verses support this understanding. In Surah Al-Insan (76:29), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,

Indeed, this is a reminder, so whoever wills may take to his Lord a way.

This verse highlights that the ability to choose the path of obedience and worship is granted by Allah. It is through His divine facilitation that we are able to embark on the journey of righteousness.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Qasas (28:56), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) states,

Indeed, [O Muhammad], you do not guide whom you like, but Allah guides whom He wills. And He is most knowing of the [rightly] guided.

This verse emphasizes that true guidance comes from Allah alone. It is He who grants success to those whom He wills, enabling them to traverse the path of obedience and attain true success.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) statement serves as a reminder that our efforts in obeying and worshiping Allah are not sufficient on their own. We must recognize that it is Allah's divine facilitation that enables us to succeed in our endeavors. This understanding should instill in us a sense of humility and gratitude, as we acknowledge that our achievements are ultimately a result of Allah's blessings.

Moreover, this Hadith highlights the importance of sincerity in our acts of obedience. It is not merely the outward performance of rituals that guarantees success, but rather the purity of intention and the sincerity of our worship. In Surah Al-Zumar (39:11-12), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,

Say, 'Indeed, I have been commanded to worship Allah, [being] sincere to Him in religion. And I have been commanded to be the first [among you] of the Muslims.'

This verse emphasizes the significance of sincerity in worship and obedience. It is through sincere devotion and submission to Allah that we attain true success. Our acts of worship should be driven by a genuine desire to please Allah and seek His pleasure, rather than seeking recognition or worldly gains.

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) reminds us that success in obeying and worshiping Allah is not solely dependent on our own efforts, but it is a blessing and favor bestowed upon us by Allah. We must recognize that true success comes from Allah's divine facilitation and guidance. Therefore, we should strive to be sincere in our acts of obedience, seeking Allah's pleasure above all else. May Allah grant us success in our endeavors and bless us with true success in this world and the hereafter.
