Hadith #3516

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

مَنْ دارَى النَّاسَ سَلِمَ۔

This can be translated as,

One who is amicable with people remains safe.

Let us delve into the profound wisdom contained within this statement and explore its implications in light of the Quran.

The word (dara) "دارَى" in the Hadith refers to someone who is amicable, friendly, and kind towards others. It signifies a person who seeks to establish harmonious relationships and maintain peace with those around them. And do not make your hand [as] chained to your neck or extend it completely and [thereby] become blamed and insolvent.

This verse highlights the need to avoid being miserly or excessively generous, as both extremes can lead to discord and imbalance in relationships. Instead, Islam encourages us to strike a balance and be amicable in our dealings with others.

Furthermore, the Quran teaches us the importance of forgiveness and reconciliation. In Surah Al-Hujurat, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says, (Quran 49:11)

O you who have believed, let not a people ridicule [another] people; perhaps they may be better than them; nor let women ridicule [other] women; perhaps they may be better than them. And do not insult one another and do not call each other by [offensive] nicknames.

This verse reminds us to treat others with respect and dignity, refraining from any form of ridicule or insult. By doing so, we foster an environment of peace and safety for ourselves and those around us.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) Hadith highlights the reciprocal nature of our interactions with others. When we are amicable and kind towards people, we create an atmosphere of trust and security.
