Hadith #7628

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his purified progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states, "اِعْمَلُوا بِالعِلْمِ تَسْعَدُوا۔" This can be translated into English as,

Act upon [your] knowledge and you will be felicitous.

Let us delve into the meanings of the key words in this Hadith. The word (i'maloo) "اِعْمَلُوا" means "act" or "do." It emphasizes the importance of putting knowledge into practice, rather than merely acquiring it. The word (bil-'ilm) "بِالعِلْمِ" means "with knowledge." To understand the significance of this Hadith, we can turn to the Quran for guidance. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) repeatedly emphasizes the importance of knowledge and its application in various aspects of life. In Surah Al-Baqarah, Allah says, (Quran 2:170)

And when it is said to them, 'Follow what Allah has revealed,' they say, 'Rather, we will follow that which we found our fathers doing.' Even though their fathers understood nothing, nor were they guided?

This verse highlights the importance of seeking knowledge and not blindly following the practices of our forefathers.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Zumar, Allah states, (Quran 58:11)

Indeed, Allah raises those who have believed among you and those who were given knowledge, by degrees.

This verse emphasizes that knowledge is a means of elevation and honor in the sight of Allah. It is through the application of knowledge that one can attain true success and felicity.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) urges us to act upon our knowledge. It serves as a reminder that knowledge without action is incomplete and ineffective.
