— Imam Ali a.s.
(Ghurar al-Hikam: The Truth)

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. Peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states, "لِلْحَقِّ دَوْلَةٌ۔" which translates to

For truth there is stability.

This concise statement holds deep meaning and provides guidance for Muslims in understanding the importance and power of truth in our lives.

Let us begin by examining the key words in this Hadith. The word (haqq) "حَقِّ" refers to truth, which is an absolute and unchanging reality. It encompasses the principles of justice, righteousness, and honesty. The word (dawlah) "دَوْلَةٌ" means stability, authority, or dominion. It signifies a state of firmness, permanence, and strength.

To further understand the significance of this Hadith, we can turn to the Quran for guidance. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) emphasizes the importance of truth in numerous verses. In Surah Al-Isra, Allah says, (Quran 17:81)

And say: 'Truth has come, and falsehood has departed. Indeed is falsehood, [by nature], ever bound to depart.'

This verse highlights the inherent nature of falsehood to perish, while truth remains steadfast and enduring.

Additionally, in Surah Al-A'raf, Allah states, (Quran 17:80)

And say: 'My Lord, let my entry be by the gate of truth and honor me with a righteous entry and cause me to exit by the gate of truth and honor me with a righteous exit. And grant me from Yourself a supporting authority.'

Here, we see the supplication of Prophet Musa (Moses) (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) to enter and exit through the gate of truth, emphasizing the importance of truth in all aspects of life.

Now, let us delve into the significance of Imam Ali's statement.

For truth there is stability

implies that truth is the foundation upon which stability and authority are built. When truth prevails, it establishes a strong and unshakable structure, both individually and collectively. Truth provides a solid ground for individuals to base their actions, decisions, and beliefs upon, leading to a stable and righteous life.

In the context of society, the presence of truth ensures a just and harmonious environment. When truth is upheld, corruption, injustice, and falsehood are eradicated, allowing for the establishment of a stable and prosperous society. This stability is not only limited to the physical realm but also extends to the spiritual and moral dimensions of human existence.

Imam Ali's enlightening saying serves as a reminder for Muslims to prioritize truth in all aspects of their lives. It encourages us to seek and uphold truth in our interactions, relationships, and endeavors. By doing so, we align ourselves with the divine order and contribute to the establishment of a just and stable society.

Reflecting on this Hadith, we are reminded of the immense knowledge and wisdom possessed by Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ). His deep understanding of the Quran and his unwavering commitment to truth serve as an inspiration for all Muslims. We should strive to emulate his qualities and make truth the guiding principle in our lives.

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ)

For truth there is stability
