(Ghurar al-Hikam: The Brother, The Friend, The Associate And The Companion)

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure progeny, the Ahl al-Bayt (عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلسَّلَامُ), and his noble companions.

The provided Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) emphasizes the importance of three virtues: offering advice, providing assistance, and spreading cheerfulness to all people. Let us delve into the deeper meaning of these words and explore their significance in light of the Quran.

The first virtue mentioned is (نُصْحَكَ) "nusḥa", which translates to "advice" or "counsel." In the context of this Hadith, it refers to offering sincere and well-intentioned advice to one's friends. This highlights the importance of maintaining strong bonds of friendship and looking out for one another's well-being. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in the Quran:

(Quran 51:55)

And remind, for indeed, the reminder benefits the believers.

This verse emphasizes the significance of offering advice and reminders to fellow Muslims, as it benefits them in their spiritual journey. By advising our friends with sincerity and wisdom, we contribute to their growth and help them stay on the right path.

The second virtue mentioned is (مَعُونَتَكَ) "maʿūnataka", which can be translated as "assistance" or "support." This refers to providing help and support to our acquaintances, those whom we may not have a close relationship with but still interact with regularly. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in the Quran:

(Quran 5:2)

Help one another in righteousness and piety, but do not help one another in sin and transgression.

This verse highlights the importance of assisting others in acts of righteousness and goodness. By extending our support to those around us, we strengthen the bonds of brotherhood and foster a sense of unity within the Muslim community.

The third virtue mentioned is (بِشْرَكَ۔) "bishraka", which can be translated as "cheerfulness" or "happiness." This refers to spreading joy and positivity to all people, regardless of their relationship with us. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in the Quran:

(Quran 2:195)

And do good. Indeed, Allah loves the doers of good.

This verse reminds us of the importance of doing good deeds and spreading positivity to all people. By radiating cheerfulness and kindness, we contribute to a harmonious and compassionate society.

Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), known for his profound knowledge and wisdom, encourages us to embody these virtues in our interactions with others. By offering sincere advice, providing assistance, and spreading cheerfulness, we can strengthen our relationships, uplift those around us, and contribute to the betterment of society.

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) reminds us of the importance of offering advice, providing assistance, and spreading cheerfulness to all people. These virtues are rooted in the teachings of the Quran, which emphasize the significance of sincere advice, supporting one another in righteousness, and spreading goodness and positivity. By embodying these virtues, we can strive towards creating a society that is built upon love, compassion, and unity. May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) guide us in implementing these teachings in our lives and grant us the ability to be a source of guidance, support, and happiness for others.
